Kyle Harris Head Coach

Coach Kyle Harris joins BISC from Boston where he was the Head Age Group Coach at Crimson Aquatics. Before his time at Crimson, Kyle was Head Coach with the Bozeman Barracudas and previously led swim programs at various level since he started his coaching career in 2014. He has experience developing swimmers of all abilities from learn-to-swim all the way to Futures and Junior National level athletes. Kyle is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and is an American Swim Coaches Associated (ASCA) Level 5 Educated Coach.

Kyle takes an athlete-centered approach, creating an environment for athletes of all ages and abilities to both learn and enjoy the sport of swimming. He is passionate about utilizing sport as a way to grow confidence, discipline and an understanding of how to navigate the struggles, successes and personal responsibilities in life. Coach Kyle’s coaching philosophy is about having fun and swimming fast!

In his spare time, Kyle is focused on honing his skills in Brazilian Jiujitsu, getting back into swimming himself, reading and being adventurous with his dog Brickson.

LEILANI TONSMANN Lead Age Group Coach

Leilani currently leads our intermediate groups. Teaching children in and out of the pool is her passion. Along with coaching BISC swimmers since 2009 she also works in the Bainbridge Island School District at Sakai Intermediate school as a para-educator. She holds a BA in Education from Arizona State where she swam competitively (1984-87).  After graduating she taught elementary school for 8 years and concurrently obtained her MA in Education from CWU. She has previously coached summer league swimmers in Arizona and Washington before joining BISC and is a certified ASCA Level 3 coach. Leilani was honored with earning PNS Age Group Coach of the year in 2020. She and her husband live here on Bainbridge. They have 3 children who all have graduated from BHS, 2 of which swam for BISC and went on to swim in college. She is available for limited private lesson instruction through the aquatic center Parks program.

 

Katherine Fort Age Group Assistant Coach

Katherine is originally from Seattle and grew up swimming for Wedgwood Swim Club, Swim Seattle and Roosevelt High School. She attended Scripps College in Claremont, CA where she swam for CMS (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps). She has coached summer league, high school and club teams has recently been back in the water, swimming with Bainbridge Aquatic Master’s (BAM). She is a licensed mental health counselor and counseling professor at Antioch University Seattle. She loves to help people of all ages connect to their authentic self, build positive communities of support, and harness inner strength and resilience…especially through swimming! She lives on Bainbridge Island with her husband and two boys, Jonathan and Lukas.

Megan LIVINGSTON Senior Group(s) Assistant Coach

Megan is a native of Bainbridge Island, former BISC swimmer, and senior national level swimmer. She attended Brown University, receiving her BA in Environmental Studies and later on a Masters in the Art of Teaching Secondary Biology. As an undergraduate Megan helped her her team to swim to four Ivy League championship titles. She received the Kate Silver award for most talend freshman athlete, earned All Ivy Team, and was awarded the Smith Trophy for Athletic Excellence and Leadership. Since graduating, Megan has taught and coached in a variety of different schools and programs in New England and Bainbridge, coaching most recently as an assistant or volunteer for the BHS girls swim and dive program for ten plus years. Megan enjoys sharing her knowledge of the sport and biomechanics to help swimmers at all levels excel. Out of the pool she spends time boating the Pacific Northwest waters with her family Wyatt and Fiona (both BISC members) and her husband Brian. Megan continues to pursue her passion in education by serving on the KiDiMu Executive Board and being an active volunteer at her children's schools in the class and on the PTO Board.
