Senior Swimming College Guidance Program

IST Communications

ISSAQUAH SWIM TEAM is pleased to announce our new Senior Swimming College Guidance Program, a comprehensive program available to every high-school aged athlete in our Senior groups spanning from matriculation into 9th grade through graduation from 12th grade that will provide them with support and guidance about their futures in the sport.

The program will be led by Justin Morin, IST’s former Head Coach and CEO, in coordination with Tim Kearney, IST’s current Head Coach and CEO, and the other coaches in our Senior Program. Coach Justin has a strong background in competitive swimming, clinical mental health, and academic research coupled with personal relationships with college coaches, a detailed knowledge of the recruiting process, and a passion for college swimming. He remains dedicated to the idea of focusing on the strengths of individuals to help bring out the most in them by using internal resources to motivate, lead, and accomplish great things in and out of the pool.

The foundation of the program will consist of a series of virtual 1:1 coordination meetings between Coach Justin, the athlete, their parents, and their direct coach (when appropriate) that will engage each swimmer in talking about the options for swimming beyond graduation from IST’s program, stimulates them to consider what they want from the sport, guides them into effective decision making, and supports them to achieve their desired outcome.

In addition to the 1:1 meetings, Coach Justin will provide webinars throughout each calendar year that will address timely topics appropriate for both the academic status of each swimmer (freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior) as well as their college recruiting aims (Division I, II, III, etc). IST will also create a special page on our website for the program that will collect important resources, display upcoming webinar dates, and coordinate our guidance counseling for athletes and parents around swimming in college.

The program will begin with the start of the 2020-21 season and will be available to all high-school aged members of our Senior 1, Senior 2, Senior 3, and Senior 4 training groups as part of their normal training fees. More details will be forthcoming in the days and weeks ahead.

IST is committed to developing accomplished athletes and well-rounded individuals through competitive swimming. We strive to be the model swim club for athletes, families, and coaches in the Pacific Northwest by providing an atmosphere that puts the swimmer-as-person at the center of our program, attracting passionate coaches, promoting life-long learning through a philosophy of growth, and seeking to actively participate in our larger community.
