Program Director and Head Age Group Coach for the StingRay Swim
Team at the Snohomish Aquatic Center. SRST is a super fun, highly
competitive swim club with a focus on family friendly inclusive
swimming year round.
My coaching philosophy revolves around providing individual
feedback, praise, and constructive criticism in a non-discouraging
manner. I believe in personal goal setting and creating
opportunities for healthy competition and teamwork in my practices.
Throughout my training programs, I like to promote the use of
fundamental swimming, especially correct head position, distance
per stroke, and white water kicking. Increasing physical limits and
endurance are a large part of our preparations for competition.
Most importantly, I try hardest to build the overall technical
foundation and mental fortitude that will allow my swimmers to go
on and compete in college and or be successful throughout all
stages of their life; It’s also extremely important to have
fun along the way and that the kids use their own creativity while
swimming fast towards their goals.
I've had 50+ swimmers make the PNS top 25 in events for their age
groups. I've had 8 swimmers qualify for the NCSA National Age Group
Championships in Orlando, FL, 5 swimmers have qualified for
the Western Zone Age Group Championships, and I've had 3 top 25 USA
swimmers.

My name is Matthew, or Matt, and I’m very honored to be starting my 8th season as a USA/PNS swim coach and going on my 3rd yr with SRST this fall, 2021. I started competing in swimming at the young age of 6 with the Olympic Aquatic Club (OAC) in Bremerton, WA, and as I got older, with the Puget Sound Swim Club (PSSC) in Port Orchard, WA. Growing up in club swim, I’ve had the opportunity of calling 3 Olympic medalist my teammates and now, my friends, Nathen Adrian and the Kirk sisters, Dana and Tara. I was lucky enough to take to butterfly at a young age, witch is the best stroke ever. As I got older, I became a very strong 200 swimmer in both the fly and Fr.
I currently live in the Kirkland area and I have a daughter, Kailey, 8, and a son, Memphis Wayne, 3. On my spare time, I’ve been active in the sport lf power lifting, in the area of squat, dead lift, and bench press. My father and I also have been restoring older cars a side hobby since I was could remember.

Coach Evan started swimming as a Freshman in High School and quickly fell in love with the sport. He swam year round on CST swim club down in Newberg OR competing at State and Sections while training with them. For college Evan attended Tabor College in KS and focused on middle distance freestyle and backstroke helping to take his to the NAIA National meet every year and setting several school records in the process. " I look forward to working with the new generation of swimmers and helping to create a love and passion for the sport that will continue long past their days as a Stingray."
