Good afternoon WEST families,

This is a reminder that we have our annual SwimAThon Letter Writing party this Saturday, March 16th for Accelerate, Challenge, Discover, and Explore groups. Senior and Senior Elite’s Letterwriting party will be Wednesday evening, March 13  Below is all the info you'll need to start your 2019 fundraising off with a bang:

What is Swim-A-Thon?

Every year, swim teams across the nation host a fundraiser, SwimAThon, during which the kids swim 200 laps (or for 2hrs, whichever comes first) and solicit donations from family, friends, and local businesses for their teams.  The fundraiser is put on in part by USA Swimming, so 95% of proceeds go directly to our WEST team and 5% goes to USAS.

WEST's 2019 SwimAThon will be on Friday, April 12th for Senior and Senior Elite and on Saturday, April 13th for Explore, Discover, Challenge, and Accelerate.

This year, we plan on using our fundraising proceeds to:

  • Replacing our failing pool pump & chlorinator
  • Filter Room Repairs
  • Pool Deck resurfacing
  • improving existing facility structure for energy efficiency, including our pool’s mechanical system.
  • Future pool expansion.
  • New Pace Clock
  • New Deck Storage for pool & team equipment

To help encourage our kiddos to come together as a group, we have created an extra challenge for our WEST swimmers this year. We usually hold a contest on who our top earners are within the team as a whole, but we will also be adding a new element to Swimathon this year. The team will be divided into two groups, and the top earning team of each group will win a trip to Wild Waves Water Park this Summer 2019. For this competition, the individual swimmer’s minimum fundraising requirement will NOT count towards their total contributed to their training groups’ success. For example, an Explore swimmer whose minimum fundraising requirement is $300 will only be able to count donations after they have exceeded their minimum requirement ($300) to contribute towards their group’s advancement.

The competing  groups are:

Green Group: Senior Elite vs Senior vs Accelerate

Blue Group: Challenge vs Discover vs Explore.

Good luck, and happy Swimathon Season everyone!

What is a Letter Writing Party?

WEST hosts a breakfast in the gym for all team swimmers.  We provide sample letters, envelopes, and postage stamps for swimmers to solicit donations from family, friends, and local business and we ask that each swimmer send out a minimum of 10 letters.   Swimmers can ask people to send donate directly to WEST in their name or sponsor them per lap (ex: 10c per  lap = $20!)

Please be sure to have your swimmer bring a list of names and addresses for their letters.  One swimmer from each group who prepares the most letters on Saturday will win a prize!

Each group will have normal Saturday practice, then eat breakfast / dinner and write letters on this schedule:

Wednesday, March 13

Senior & Senior Elite: Practice from 3:15 - 6:00pm. 6:00 - 7:00pm Letterwritting.

Accelerate, Challenge, Disco, Explore: NORMAL Practice.

Saturday, March 16

Senior & Senior Elite: 6:00 - 8:30am practice
