2019-20 Season End & Start of 2020-21 Season Details

Nick Chevalier
Dear WEST Swim Community,

The end of our 2019-20 Season is quickly approaching and we are preparing for the next year, along with the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are confident in our safety protocols and we have been operating for almost two months now without any COVID cases. Let’s continue to be vigilant about distancing and hygiene and make sure you stay home if you think you may have been exposed or have any symptoms.

As we look forward to the fall, it is clear that state mandated guidelines for our operations will continue to be in effect. Without knowing specifically what the requirements will be and without knowing what the school districts each plan to do, we can’t yet finalize a fall practice schedule. I hope that over these past months, we have displayed both our commitment to our community and adaptability as circumstances and restrictions continue to change. We need the support of our team families now more than ever. If we all want to have a pool to return to when this is over, we all have an obligation to keep it going.

How can you help?
Register for next year! Staying in the program is the best way to support it.

Spread the word - we are running Group and Private Lessons for independent swimmers and Parent & Child style classes for beginners. We’ve redeveloped our teaching curriculum to accommodate parents teaching their own child. Learn the skills to teach your own child and then reinforce them as you practice on your own!

We plan to have registration for Club Team, Pre-Comp and SwimFit open this week. The Club Team’s last practice will be Friday 8/28 and Summer Team ends Sunday 8/30. Club Team, Pre-Comp and SwimFit will all plan to start back up Tuesday 9/8. Note: we plan to take a week off between seasons to give the coaching staff and swimmers a quick break.

WEST will be closed Monday, August 31st through Labor Day Weekend.
We will reopen Tuesday, September 8th.

Practice Schedule:
We have a couple different options for scheduling practices next year due to the 3 per lane COVID-19 restrictions, however before we can make a final decision, we need to see what the school districts around us are doing. We would much prefer to schedule some practices during the daytime to avoid running at extremely late and early hours. We also need to maximize efficiency and minimize expenses.

Changes for Next Year:
Due to the financial impact of the COVID pandemic on our families, we have decided not to raise team dues this year. Fundraising and volunteer requirements will tentatively remain the same and if our number of hosted meets gets reduced, we will reduce the volunteer requirement accordingly. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to reduce the fundraising requirements.

Group Move-Ups
Group move-ups will be announced soon and emails will be sent individually. We have determined Group Placements based on our established training groups, but please be aware that during the pandemic we have split and combined groups to accommodate the COVID restrictions. Swimmers will be assigned to a specific practice lane and time, just as we did this summer until we are allowed to return to our normal schedule. Please note that some groups have reduced capacity this year due to COVID restrictions. We are doing our best to accommodate everyone, but please be aware that some swimmers may be waitlisted and asked to continue in Pre-Comp or a lower level training group until space becomes available.

Registration
The process to register for next year will be done online and we plan to open registration later this week, after Group Move-Ups are announced. We have an updated Organization Handbook that everyone will need to review and agree to, which includes many policy changes that USA Swimming has made mandatory this year.

Thank you for the continued support! WEST is nothing without our community and we cannot wait until we can return to normal operations.

Stay safe, stay vigilant, stay healthy.
