Weekend Reminders for Swim Meets

Tim Senholtz

Hello WEST,

Just a few reminders for our families as we enter the weekend. We’re doing our best to provide as many opportunities to all of our WEST swimmers to race as possible given limited resources and we appreciate everyone’s patience. It has been difficult finding officials available for our meets, but also getting into other team’s meets before they have run out of available space. Thank you for your continued support as we continue to work towards returning back to normal operations.

Below, meets that are being attended by WEST this weekend are highlighted in Blue so you can skip to your appropriate meet..

SMAC Meet: Click here to view meet announcement information

Please see click for the following Documents: Timeline, Heatsheet, & Meet Procedures.

Masks Will Be Required for all individuals:Masking will be required for everyone within Snohomish Aquatic Center and while they are no longer required to maintain specific distance, they will encourage athletes to stay spread out when sitting in the bleachers. Once competition starts athletes will be required to move around the pool deck counterclockwise. The meet will use flyover starts for the 13&O sessions to help keep the meet moving and allow a little extra rest for swimmers at the end of their races.

Reminders:

  • Friday distance events are positive check in. The check in for 500s will close at 4:30 pm and 400 IM/1650 will close at 5:00. Check in sheets will be in the hallway until 4:00 pm and then move to the clerk of course table. These events are fast to slow

  • Swimmers in distance freestyle events need to provide their own counter, preferably another swimmer but a parent will be allowed into the pool area to count. Timers (2 per lane) will be provided

  • We will follow normal scratch procedures. Swimmers will have 30 minutes from the time results are announced to report to the clerk of course if they plan to scratch. If they report an intent to scratch but fail to return to clerk of course to confirm, they will be seeded in finals and penalized if they do not show. We are all a bit rusty with this process but it is important that swimmers get reacquainted with this routine prior to the summer championship meets.

Warm up lane assignments: WEST and SRST -- lanes 8 & 9.

Lanes 8-10 will be open during competition for warm up/cool down and there are no swimmer limits for these lanes

LockerRooms: are fully open, athletes are required to be masked when using the locker room facilities.

Age Group Meet at WEST:

Saturday & Sunday July 10 & 11th. 7:00am warmups. Meet will finish by 10:00am.

Due to lack of officials, this will be an unsanctioned meet. Swimmers should focus on either Summer Divisionals as their Championship meet, or 14&Under PNS Championships if they qualify. For any questions, contact Coach Bryan at [email protected]

Summer League Meet at WEST: Saturday July 10th

This meet will be unsanctioned. Warmups Begin at 2:30pm. Meet is set to finish by 5:00 pm. Since our entire summer league will be at the facility we will not be allowing parents on deck to spectate to uphold a safe facility capacity size. This has been a common safety practice for all USA Swimming meets, including the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, and will also be the safety protocols implemented at the summer league meets at Marysville-Pilchuck HS.

This Saturday, parents will be allowed to set up chairs outside in the grass. Parents are not to go behind the building to watch through the windows. Swimmers will be allowed to pass through the sliding glass door to see their parents. Please do not crowd the door as this will create a safety hazard. Staff will be monitoring to ensure these policies are upheld.

Coaches will need 7 parent volunteers to help on deck, and will be picked as first come, first serve based off of who emails Coach Bryan directly. Any emails sent past 8:00pm will not be eligible. Volunteers will need to wear masks, regardless of vaccination status.

All Summer League coaches will be on deck to help your swimmers if needed. Swimmers will be learning about how swim meets run this weekend, so our summer league swimmers of all levels are welcome. Our novice summer league swimmers will be participating in the 50 Freestyle, 50 Backstroke, and 50 Breaststroke. The advanced swimmers will be participating in the 100 Freestyle, 100 Individual medley and a 50 of stroke (Backstroke, Breaststroke or Butterfly).

Swimmers are expected to bring; a swimsuit, towel, goggles, cap (optional), and water.

If you have not declared for your meets, you MUST do so by 5:00pm tonight to be able to participate in meets. Click here to jump to our previous email, where you will find the Meet Declarations Form.
