Excitement is in the air on deck at Jean E Brink Pool at Oceana High School. The now board-owned Pacifica Sea Lions Aquatic Club has hired Gaku Ito as their new head coach to lead their experienced staff toward a bright future.

Gaku has worked with hundreds of athletes, including Far Western champions, Jr Olympic champions, CCS champions, CIF State finalists, Junior Nationals finalists, Pacific Swimming Record setters, Nationally Ranked Top 10s, US Olympic Trials qualifiers, and swimmers who’ve gone on to compete at NCAA DI and DIII Championships. His experience also spans YMCA Leagues, Summer Leagues, he has served on multiple volunteer boards and he has been Meet Director for an array of competitions.

New Head Coach Gaku has ambitious goals for the club. Robust program plans include Dryland for strength, conditioning, and injury prevention, guest speakers & coaches, increased competitive opportunities for members at all levels of development, and monthly social events that highlight the family environment that has made PSL a staple of the community for decades. Gaku and the rest of the coaching staff are supported by volunteers throughout the year. Volunteer roles vary in commitment allowing engagement for all families at all levels.

“We will strive to be a recognizable force for good for the members of our club and for our community. We will welcome individuals and families of diverse backgrounds together to form something greater than the sum of our parts. We are committed to competition as a showcase for our human spirit, character, and community as much as our athletic ability.”

PSL currently offers programming year-round for athletes ages 6-18 in all of its competitive and pre-competitive practice groups. Seasons last between 3-4 months with competitive opportunities available most months of the year.
