Coach Rob is the head site coach for Nation's Capital Swim Club for the past 9 seasons as well as the Aquatics Director at Woodmont Country Club. Rob has served as a head coach for many summer teams in Montgomery Country, having coached in both the MCSL and the CCSDA summer swim leagues. Rob has trained numerous MCSL champions, PVS Senior, and JO Champions as well as many nationally ranked swimmers. In that capacity, he has coached swimmers to USS Winter Nationals, USS Jr. Nationals, NCSA Jr. Nationals, sectionals, and the zone level. Prior to moving to Montgomery County in 1995, Rob served as a reconnaissance Marine and Ranger in Operations Desert Shield and Storm.

Rob’s passion is coaching and teaching swimming. He believes that in order for a swimmer to reach their maximum potential, a strong knowledge and understanding of proper swimming technique is a must. In his free time Rob enjoys spending time with his wife, his three children and their dog.


Kristen Washburn

Coach Kristen has been working for Nation's Capital Swim Club since 2009. She started as the 8&Under Coach and over the last 9 seasons she has worked with every group at the North site. In the 2017, season Kristen became the Silver Coach. In that capacity, she has coached swimmers to USA Winter Nationals, USA Jr. Nationals, NCSA Jr. Nationals, sectionals, and the zone level. Under Kristen’s guidance, her swimmers have set NCAP team & PVS records, achieved USA top 10 times, numerous PVS top 16 times, as well as National Age Group single and mixed gender relay records. 


Garland Bartlett

Garland Bartlett was hired as the Head Assistant swimming coach at American University prior to the 2016-17 season, and works as both the recruiting and dryland coordinator for the program. During the summer she is the Head Swim Coach/Assistant Aquatics Director at Woodmont Country Club, and she was in the same position at Lakewood Country Club from 2017-2019. She came to the Washington DC area from Middlebury College, where the team finished the season with four qualifiers to the NCAA Division III national championships. Prior to that, she spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Trinity College. Bartlett was an accomplished distance freestyler at Franklin & Marshall College where she earned four silver medals, two bronze medals and a number of top-8 finishes at the Centennial Conference Championships. Bartlett graduated from Franklin & Marshall in 2012 with a degree in American Studies. She earned a masters in American Studies at Trinity in 2015.
