News from the Head Coach/ CEO

Good Evening,

In a normal summer, OCCS would be wrapping up the swimming year gearing up for the summer community swim league championships with possibly one more meet for a handful of swimmers going to a sectional meet or junior nationals or zones.  But this is the conclusion of the strangest year ever and why not finish BIG?  This year we obviously have the summer swim champs coming up at the end of the month that we are super excited for those that get to compete in those events, but we are also sending 35 athletes to Florida for the 2021 International Swimming Coaches Association (ISCA) Senior Summer Blast Championships in St. Petersburg July 26-August 1.  The meet is attracting almost 1000 athletes from around the USA to compete in a five-day championship event. Then, to top that, 54 more swimmers 14 & under will travel to the same location for the first edition long course ISCA Age Group Elite Showcase event August 3-8.  We look forward to the great experiences and swimming results from the big summer finish!

Last weekend we had a tremendous meet that provided an opportunity for over 500 swimmers from OCCS and other teams to race in a different format for a meet.  The Red Caps swam to 316 improved times out of 432 entries for an improvement rate of 73% for the weekend including 52 first time swims.  There was one new OCCS all-time team record set as Matthew Jensen (14) improved the 13-14 boys’ 50 free record set in 2016 by Mitchell Meyer, 25.89.  The new record now stands at 25.46.

Thank you again to all the gracious help from the best swim-parents throughout the meets this summer.  I know that your demands from everything in the summer are a huge burden and standing in an indoor pool that is 90 degrees with 90% humidity is not the most desirable place to be.  You all have given so much of yourselves in helping to support your team!  Thank you!

Wondering about the 2021-22 swimming year?  Here are some start up plans and dates to plan for:

  • Last practice of 2021 swimming season, July 30 (except swimmers attending Florida)
  • August 1-21 – no organized practices for OCCS
  • August 23 – NTG workouts begin.
  • August 30 – optional dryland workouts begin for J012, JO14 and SrS (AT CPAC)
  • September 7 – optional swim and dryland workouts offered for JO12, JO14 and SrS (AT CPAC)
  • September 7 – FULL PARENT Pre-Season meeting (ZOOM at 7:00pm)
  • September 8-12 – group parent meetings (various times)
  • Gear Pick up – Date TBD
  • September 13 – Official 2022 season start date

We have a lot of great plans being put together for the new swimming year and hope that you all will be able to join us in our journey forward.  If you have not yet registered be sure to do so soon, we expect a surge in registrations from new families in the coming weeks.

Have a great weekend!

Coach Aaron
