News from the Head Coach/ CEO

Good Afternoon,

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!  This time of year, is so very special not only for the holidays that provide family time, but also for the transition of the swimming season as we head into the first big championship meets of the swimming year.  Practices become a little more exciting as we add a little more racing into the regular routine and swimmers should start gaining some additional speed through training and through some extra rest.

Last weekend at the Fall Fest, we made it through the big event due to the amazing coaching staff and parent volunteers that supported the meet.  A huge thank you to everyone that helped especially the two brains and brawn behind the two-pool set up, Coach Nick and Coach Dalton, for their tireless hours in making sure the timing system, live stream and PA systems were operational for throughout the competition.  We also have a number of officials that give more than just a few hours while their kids are in the water swimming to volunteering.  Some of our leadership in officiating spent the entire weekend work sessions out of the kindness of their hearts in supporting the swimming world we live in.  Thank you to everyone for making the meet great!

There were two new OCCS team records set last weekend at the Fall Fest, Jillian Francisco (10) raced his way to a new 9–10-year-old record in the 200 breast 2:54.83, the previous all-time best was set in 2018 by Ryan Maynard 2:58.98.  Alex Grocholski (14) improved the 13-14 boys’ all-time best swim in the 1000 free in 9:40.55 improving on the record set in 2017 by Michael Jiang 9:41.62.

The holiday champs kick off next weekend with the Nutcracker Invite being held in Stafford.  The meet looks to be mostly set with the starting times that were planned, but look for updated details to be sent out next week on Monday or Tuesday with volunteer opportunities, warm up assignments and more.

I am so grateful for every one of our OCCS families and what you do to contribute to this amazing collection of swimmers, coaches, parents and other staff!  Thank you for your loyalty to the team, time you put into your passions and attention to helping keep the team moving forward, getting better and making waves in this amazing sport.  We are all Occoquan!

Have a great remainder of your holiday weekend!

Coach Aaron
