The Arlington Aquatic Club and the Nation’s Capital Swim Club raced at the 2020 October Racing meet last Saturday, October 3. All events were swum as mixed-gender heats. 14-year-old Nolan Dunkel placed first in the 100-yard backstroke, swimming a 49.97. This time ranks him 1st in the nation among 13-14s this season. His previous best was a 51.46, which he swam at the 2019 NC TAC Big Southern Classic. Notable swims by Huske, Hughes, Cameron, Marsh, Bailey. Congratulations goes out to these PVS athletes who were named by USA Swimming to its 2019-2020 Scholastic All America Team. The application process was open from June 1-August 31st (deadline was extended due to Covid-19 circumstances), with awardees announced September 17th by USA Swimming. This year was the third year that 9th graders are eligible to apply for the recognition, Of the 1,087 successful applicants, 525 boys, 562 girls, 102 were freshmen! Last year there were a total of 1634 successful applicants. US Open Champion and Olympic contender Torri Huske was one of a handful of swimmers from the Arlington Aquatic Club who woke up early on Sunday morning to get in some 7AM racing at The St. James sports complex. The result for Huske was a new personal best in the 100 meter fly, swimming 57.43. That undercuts the 57.48 that she swam at the US Open in December where she won the title.
