Evan Stiles AAC Head Coach

Evan has been with the Arlington Aquatic Club since 1993. He spent the first 12 years as a Head Age Group coach and the Head Masters coach. In 2005, Evan took over as the Head Coach.

Evan grew up in Alexandria, VA, where he attended Mt. Vernon High School and graduated in 1987. He went on to get a BA in Geography in 1991 from Mary Washington College and then a MSS in Sport Coaching from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, AL in 1993.

Evan has also been a Varsity high school coach for the past 26 years. He spent 22 years at O'Connell and the past 4 years at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School. During the summers, Evan coaches in the NVSL, the past 17 years at Dowden Terrace. Evan currently is the Virginia Independent Schools (VISAA) Swimming President. He has also spent the past 3 years as the Potomac Valley Swimming (PVS) Coaches Rep and is about to begin the new role of PVS Senior Chair.

Bethany Ellis AAC Assistant Head Coach

Bethany grew up swimming for Southern Crescent Aquatic Team in Georgia. She attended college Studying Marine Biology at the University of West Florida. She coached at North Baltimore Aquatic Club for 8 years as a lead coach. She was the head coach for the Baltimore City Special Olympics Swim Team for 3 years. After moving to Alexandria she has spent 6 summers as the head coach of Belle Haven Country Club’s Swim Team.

This is her sixth season coaching with Arlington Aquatic Club. She has worked with the Mini Gators on up through the Senior level. She is lead coach for the Age Group Performance Swim Group as well as Assistant Head Coach.

Gypsy Roberts Assistant coach

Gypsy began swimming at the age of four with the Parklawn Piranhas. She got her start with year-round swimming a couple of years later with AAC and Curl Burke. She was a member of the Bishop O’Connell High School swim team her freshman and sophomore years, and after transferring to start her junior year, swam for the J.E.B Stuart Raiders.

While in college, Gypsy spent her summers working as a lifeguard and swim instructor for young swimmers of varying ages and abilities. She completed her undergraduate studies at Virginia Tech, has a graduate degree in clinical psychology, and currently works for local government. Gypsy joined the AAC coaching staff in 2013, and has been a lead coach for Age Group Prep.

Julie Gallion Lead Coach

Julie began swimming at the Warren, PA YMCA at the age of 10 and continued swimming for Warren Area High School as a teenager.  At Slippery Rock University, she was an All Conference swimmer specializing in distance freestyle. After graduating from Slippery Rock, she continued her love for swimming with the DC and the Arlington Masters teams for the past 20+ years.

She joined the coaching staff at AAC in 2009 and has taught many of the Arlington Aquatic Club young swimmers the four strokes as they began their careers on the Mini Gators and Mega Gators teams. Julie is also the Assistant Head Coach for the Arlington Forest Tigers in the NVSL.

She has three children one of which she currently home schools. Her oldest son is a member of the United States Marine Corps, her middle son swims and plays water polo at Gannon University and her daughter is a high school junior and swims competitively.

Julie is the lead coach for Age Group Wakefield and Age Group Prep Wakefield for the 2019-2020 season.

Michael Lengle Lead Coach

Michael was born and raised in Arlington, VA. He first dove into competitive swimming at Arlington Forest Club (AFC) in the Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL) at the age of 6, a few years later at Competition Swim Clinic, and then at Arlington Aquatic Club (AAC). Over the years, he donned caps for Thomas Jefferson Middle School and Washington-Lee High School.

He started coaching and teaching swim lessons in 1996 for AFC, for six seasons. He stopped swimming competitively in college to pursue volunteer and teaching opportunities in the Emergency Medical Services while earning a B.A. in Sociology. After graduating from Georgetown University in 2001, he taught swimming part-time at the Sports Club/LA in Washington, DC, before returning to AAC in 2011 as a Mini-Gators coach. He works full-time as a project manager providing subject matter expertise for environmental, public health, and emergency management related programs, in addition to competing in triathlons.

Kathryn McAbee Lead Coach

Kathryn began swimming at her local YMCA at the age of 11. She continued swimming through high school and college. Kathryn began her coaching career with the YMCA team she grew up swimming with. She has coached for over a decade with a range of teams, including as an assistant YMCA coach, head high school swim and dive coach, and USA Swimming coaching experience with all age groups. Kathryn has been with AAC and the Age Group program since 2013 and is currently the lead coach for Age Group at Wakefield. Kathryn works full-time for the Department of Defense.

Matt Wolff Lead Coach

Matt grew up locally in Annandale, Va. He began his swimming career at Forest Hollow Swim Club in Annandale at the age of four. Later, Matt was their Head Coach from 2001-2004. He graduated from Annandale High School in 2002. In his senior year he was the Captain of the swim team while leading them to a third place finish in the state and a member of the State Record Setting 200 Medley relay team.

After high school Matt went on to swim for the College of William and Mary. Matt qualified for Junior Nationals in three events as a member of the Arlington Aquatic Club. While swimming for William and Mary, he received the "Freshman of the Year" award and continued to make more National qualifying times.

Matt started coaching for the Williamsburg Aquatic Club in the summer of 2006. After graduating in 2007 with a degree in Marketing and Information Technology, Matt returned to AAC. He is currently works at WGCC’s as the Director of Aquatics and head coach of their summer team, and he coaches the AAC Senior group in the afternoons.

Emily Cline Lead Coach

Carter grew up in Richmond, Virginia, where her passion for the sport began while swimming for NOVA of Virginia Aquatics, as well as her summer league swim team from ages 5 to 18. This is her fourth year coaching with AAC, where she is the lead coach of the Age Group and Age Group Prep programs at the Washington-Lee site. Carter previously coached for York Swim Club from 2012-2015 and has twelve years of summer league coaching experience. Currently, she also serves as the Co-Head Coach and Swim Lesson Coordinator at Washington Golf & Country Club. Carter is very excited for another awesome season with AAC. Go Gators! 

Cabell Perrot Asst. Coach

Cabell started swimming at age 6 for the High Point Dolphins, and began swimming year round at age 8. At 13 he joined the AAC Senior/National Prep Group. He qualified for NSCA Junior Nationals, Speedo Junior Nationals and the US Open throughout his career. Academically, Cabell went to St. Stephen's and St. Agnes High School in Alexandria, received his Bachelor's from George Mason University, and his Master's from Arizona State University. Cabell began coaching for AAC in 2012 and is the assistant coach for the Senior Group and Age Group Performance as well as co-lead coach of Middle School Sprint.

Adrien Henric Assistant Coach

Adrien started his swimming career as an 8&U for the NVSL Broyhill Crest Barracudas, growing up his passion for team sports and athletics lead him to compete in other sports such as football, lacrosse, basketball, and other intramural sports teams. His love for swimming grew stronger as it ended up being his favorite athletic experience. He continued to swim for the NVSL, York, and Annandale High School until he graduated. His love for competition and swimming brought him back to the world of swimming by way of coaching. He is currently on his second year with AAC and coaches and the North Springfield Swim Club during the summer. This year you can find Adrien working with with our Age Group Prep team at Yorktown High School. He also leads the Gators program, Swim Clinic, and Middle School Sprint with the help of Kevin, Adam, and Cabell. 

Kevin Nicholson Assistant Coach

Hi!   My name is Kevin Nicholson and this is my second year coaching at AAC.   I currently coach Age Group, Age Group Plus, and Age Group Performance, and have helped with Gators practices.   I’m from Ithaca, NY and swam for club, summer, and school swim teams from the age of six through my senior year of high school.   I went on to swim for the men’s swim team at Gettysburg College between 2011 and 2015.   After graduating I served as an assistant coach for the boys and girls varsity swimming and diving teams at Ithaca High School for one year, taught history and social studies for two years at the Whitestone Academy in upstate NY and then moved to Arlington in 2018 to get my Master’s degree in history at George Washington University.   I joined AAC in September of 2018 and have really enjoyed my time here since!

Olivia Ross Asst. Coach

Olivia’s passion for the sport of swimming began at the early age of 4 when she began swimming for the local YMCA in Clarksburg, WV. In 2003, Olivia’s family moved to Richmond, VA where she swam for Poseidon Swimming and eventually landed a scholarship at Penn State. Unfortunately, a career-ending shoulder injury forced Olivia to quit the sport; however, her passion for the sport did not dwindle and drove her to giving back to the sport through coaching. Olivia has been a coach for the past 12 years including 6 years as the Head Coach of a summer league team in Richmond as well as time with Poseidon Swimming. Olivia joined the AAC coaching staff to continue her passion after moving to the Arlington area. She currently works as a Registered Nurse at Virginia Hospital Center in the Intensive Care Unit and loves coaching for AAC part-time!
