7 & Under Free (25, 50); Back (25, 50); Breast (25, 50); Fly (25, 50); IM (100)

8 & Under Free (25, 50, 100); Back (25, 50, 100);Breast (25, 50, 100); Fly (25, 50); IM (100)

To encourage a natural progression, new strokes and greater distances are offered to those swimmers who are prepared to advance to the next level of competition. For example, the 7 & Under 50 FREE event is open for any athlete who is seven years or younger.

Age Group Program

The Age Group program is based upon two major factors: the age AND the level of expertise of the swimmer. Events in Age Group meets are based upon time standards so that the swimmer competes with others of the same age and ability. The National time standards also provide a natural progression of goals. In Age Group meets, athletes may only compete in their own age group: 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15 & over. The age of the swimmer on the FIRST day of the meet determines the Age Group for competition.

Meets classified as "B-C" Meets are only for those swimmers whose best times thus far are within the listed time standard for that event. Athletes who have exceeded the time standard in an event are not eligible to compete in that event in a "B-C" meet. "A" meets are only for those swimmers who have equaled or exceeded the listed event qualifying time.

The 9-10 and 11-12 age groups swim 50s and 100s of each stroke, 200 and 500 Freestyle and 100s and 200 IM.

The 13-14 and 15 & Over swimmers swim 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, and 1650 Freestyle; 100 and 200 Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Fly; as well as 200 and 400 IM.

Zone All-Star Team

Each Spring, the two fastest available swimmers in each age-group event are selected to represent Potomac Valley Swimming in the Eastern Zone Meet. The Eastern Zone is one of the four zones established by USS in the United States. The Eastern Zone consists of the thirteen eastern states and the District of Columbia. YORK Swim Club usually sends several swimmers to this prestigious three-day championship meet.

PVS Meet Check-In Policy

PVS has a POSITIVE CHECK-IN policy that applies to events over 200 yards (e.g., 400 IM, 500 Free, etc.). Swimmers for these events need to check-in 30 minutes before the end of warm-ups for events to be swum that day. Check-in is the responsibility of the swimmers - NOT the coaches! This policy applies to all meets except Mini meets and Championship meets.
