Learning Opportunities for Parents

Jeanne Fye

Dear FISH Parents,

We hope you are staying safe and healthy. As mentioned in Monday’s weekly email, we are focusing heavily on our Educational Mission during this difficult time away from the pool. Living through this pandemic is undoubtedly tricky for all of us. Yet, there is a lot we can still do.

Here are several opportunities for you, ranging from webinar presentations to insightful articles. All of these can be found in the Parent’s Corner on the FISH website. We will be updating the page frequently, so we encourage you to visit it often.

The most significant opportunities come in the form of online webinar presentations from Fitter & Faster. The topics are widespread and extremely detailed. WE highly recommend the following upcoming presentations:

1. “Growing up in a swimming family.” • Date & Time: Tuesday April 14, 2020 @ 5pm EST Suggested Audience: Swimmers, Parents, and Coaches

2. “Athlete Nutrition and Cooking habits.” – Episode 3 • Date and Time: Thursday April 16, 2020 @ 6pm EST Suggested Audience: Swimmers, Parents, and Coaches

3. “The Carpool Lane with Kristy Kowal” • Date and Time: Friday April 17, 2020 @ 2pm EST Suggested Audience: Parents • Is a recurring webinar that occurs every Friday by CG Sports Network

These are just a few of some excellent educational opportunities out there. You can also find these on the Awesome/Incredible FISH Group Page. Links to the presentations are included.

Also, here is a great article on a parents influence to athlete success: https://simplifaster.com/articles/parental-influence-athlete-success/

Finally, please check out our Zoom calls. We have already seen success with Zoom with our various swim groups. Our swimmers love “meeting” via these virtual sessions. We strive to maintain frequent communication with everyone. We want to return to the water as soon as possible. However, during this uncertain period, it is our mission to help you as much as we can. We hope that these opportunities do so.

Please, stay safe, stay healthy!
