Parent Corner

Here is where parents can find information to help them understand the crazy awesome sport of swimming!

Parent Volunteers

We know that one of our biggest assets is our wonderful parents.  Consequently, we rely on parent volunteers to make each season run successfully and enjoyably.  We have several ways in which parents can get involved.  We will briefly outline those opportunities here and provide links for more information if you are interested.

Become an Official and work on deck at swim meets.  Every meet our swimmers compete in requires many Officials to run smoothly and in accordance with USA Swimming requirements.  Officials have the best seat in the house and our swimmers LOVE seeing their parents right there by the pool.  Plus, it is always cooler on the pool deck than in the stands.

The "entry level" positions are Stroke & Turn Judge, Computer Operator, and Timing System Operator.

  • A Stroke & Turn Judge observes the swimmers during each race for compliance with the technical rules of swimming.
  • The Computer Operator (also known as Hytek Operator) works at the computer table near the pool making sure swimmer entries are accurate; seeding any events that have not been pre-seeded; recording any Disqualifications; and posting the official results to MeetMobile.
  • The Timing System Operator also works alongside the AO at the computer table.  He/she is responsible for the electronic timing equipment used during PVS meets.

The Fish has a need for all three of these positions.  If you are interested, click here to get started.

Sign-up to be a Timer at meets your swimmer is entered in.  Every session of every meet needs at least 2 timers per lane for swim times to be capture efficiently and accurately.  The Fish is required to provide a certain amount of parent volunteers as Timers at each meet we have swimmers entered in.  If you are willing to be a Timer, you can sign-up on your TeamUnify account.

  • Simply go to the Events tab where you committed your swimmer for a particular meet.  Click on the “Job Sign-Up” tab next to the “Edit Commitment” tab.  There you will be able to sign-up to Time for a particular session (or sessions) of the meet.
  • Check the box next to the session(s) you would like to volunteer at and then hit the “Sign-up” button at the bottom of the page.  Please enter your cell phone number in the pop-up box where is states “Optional Contact Info” and then hit “Sign-Up.”

Sign-up to bring food or work concessions at Fish-hosted meet.  The Fish hosts 4 meets throughout the season.  At these meets, we need parents to donated drink and food items for concessions and our hospitality table.  We also need a few parents to volunteer at these tables.  If you are interested, you can sign-up on your TeamUnify account.

  • Simply go to the Events tab where you commit your swimmer for the Fish meet.  Click on the “Job Sign-Up” tab next to the “Edit Commitment” tab.  There you will be able to sign-up to bring items or volunteer.
  • Check the box next to the sessions you would like to volunteer at or items you would like to bring, and then hit the “Sign-up” button at the bottom of the page.  Please enter your cell phone number in the pop-up box where is states “Optional Contact Info” and then hit “Sign-Up.”

Sign-up to help at a Social event.  There will be several social events throughout the season.  Some will be specific to each practice group and some will be team-wide.  Check out the Team Events listed on TeamUnify to see which event you might want to help with.  If you have any questions regarding Social events, please contact Kimberly Alms at [email protected].
