Q:  We are new to summer swim. What do I need to know to be prepared for a meet?

A:  Your swimmer will need to wear a swimsuit for racing and have a team cap. If you have a very young swimmer with short hair, they do not have to wear a cap, although it is strongly encouraged. Swimmers need to be sure to stay in our team's designated area so that they can be sure not to miss their event. Coaches will call swimmers by event and give them a card to take to Clerk of Course prior to swimming in their race. Don't worry! Our coaches are here to help. Most important: stay in team area!

Dual Meet

Dual meets, also known as an ‘A’ meet, are held on Saturday mornings. Two teams swim against each other. The Cascades Rapids will participate in five Colonial Swim League sponsored Dual meets that will be held on five consecutive Saturdays. In Dual meets, you can expect 1 heat of each of the 52 events; lasting about three hours.

Start time – 8:00 am
Swimmers – Commitment to swim on a Saturday must be submitted on the Wednesday prior so that the line up can be set. Swimmers must confirm their participation on the Friday before and MUST arrive 15 minutes prior to posted warm-up time and check in with coaches.
Volunteers – Unless otherwise notified, you should plan on arriving 30 minutes prior to the start of the meet.

On Fridays prior to Saturday Dual meet, the Coach will post the meet sheet and any other important information you will need.

First, Second, and Third place swimmers in each event will receive ribbons. Teams also get points for each swimmer who places in each event (5 points for first, 3 for second and 1 for third). There will be relays at the end of the meet (worth 7 team points). Total points will determine the winning team. We need all 200+ Rapids to cheer on our Saturday swimmers!!

Developmental Meet

Developmental meets, also known as ‘B’ meets, do what the name implies — they “develop” swimmers. They are held to provide an opportunity for swimmers to experience the competitive environment. Regardless of how many events you're swimming, the entire team is encouraged to come out and cheer on the team!

Start time – 6:00 pm on Wednesday night
Swimmers – MUST arrive 15 minutes prior to posted warm-up time and check in with coaches.
Volunteers – Unless otherwise notified, you should plan on arriving 30 minutes prior to the start of the meet.

Developmental meets are run in a similar manner to Saturday meets, except the meet is not scored. In developmental meets you can usually expect multiple heats of each event. Ribbons are awarded to the First through Sixth place swimmers from our team. All other swimmers receive participation ribbons.
