General Volunteer Information

It truly takes an Army to make the swim season a success. The Fort Myer Swim Team requires families to participate in volunteer opportunities, both in support of swim meets, as well as non-meet activities. The following provides information about the critical jobs that make a swim meet run smoothly, as well as jobs that are needed throughout the season. 

Both Saturday (A) and Wednesday (B) meets require specific volunteers on deck:

  • One certified Referee (provided by the home team)
  • One certified Starter (provided by the away team)
  • Two certified Stroke and Turn judges (per team)
  • One Head Timer (per team)
  • Three Timers per lane (9 per team)
  • One Clerk of Course (per team)
  • One Announcer (home team)
  • Two Time Recorders (computer support; per team)
  • One card runner (however, two are more efficient)
  • One Team representative (per team)

Swim meets CANNOT BE HELD WITHOUT AN ADEQUATE NUMBER OF CERTIFIED OFFICIALS FROM OUR TEAM.

Requirements

We are resuming mandatory volunteer requirements in *2022*. Every family is required to complete 10 volunteer points over the course of the season.  Generally, one point is equivalent to one hour of volunteer time.  We use an app/web-based system to sign up for volunteer jobs and track points.  Families who do not complete their 2022 requirements will be required to "buy" ($10/point) for their unfulfilled points before the end of the season in order to  participate in final swim activities, including the Banquid. Families may opt out of volunteer requirements at the beginning of the season by paying $100.  While this system may seem strict, it truly is the only way we can ensure we have enough volunteers to run the meets.
