Our team is led by our amazing swim coaches who have years of experience in the sport and a deep commitment to helping us achieve our goals. These coaches bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our practices and meets, and they inspire us to work hard, push ourselves, and have fun along the way. We are incredibly lucky to have such talented and supportive coaches on our team, and we can't wait to see what we can accomplish with their guidance and leadership.
Aaron Mikuni - Head Coach Coach
Aaron's coaching career spans more than 20 years and began with Rudgear Estates. He coached Valley Vista for 10 years before the team disbanded, and, most recently was a Co-Head Coach at Dana Hills. His coaching philosophy is founded in forming positive connections with the team, families and the community, affirmative energy and team spirit.
Coach Aaron’s personal connection to swimming began as a rec swimmer with Ygnacio Woods and later transitioned to year-round swimming with the Terrapins. He swam as a high school athlete at Ygnacio Valley High School then at Diablo Valley College and the University of Hawaii. Aaron is currently an active member of the Walnut Creek Masters Team. You can find him at the 5:30am practice!
In addition to coaching, Aaron has been a Physical Education teacher at Diablo View Middle School for more than 15 years.
Mackenzie Curtis - Assistant Head Coach
Mackenzie Curtis, Assistant Head Coach and Gutter Guppy Director for the 2023 swim season, started swimming at age 9. She excelled in butterfly, backstroke, and IM and participated in the Contra Costa County Championship Meet from 2012 to 2018. With 9 years of coaching experience, she's thrilled to be back with the LMYA Swim Dolphins. Pursuing a BA in Liberal Studies, Mackenzie aspires to be an elementary school teacher and enjoys time with family, gaming, yoga, and music.
Claudia Dumais - Assistant Coach
Claudia is from Lafayette and began her rec swim career at age 9 with LMYA Swim! At age 17, Claudia began swimming for Terrapins Swim Team, but has been coaching for LMYA ever since. Claudia is a 2023 graduate of Carondelet High School and will be attending the University of San Diego in the fall where she will be a member of their Division 1 swim team. In her free time, Claudia enjoys hanging out with friends, working out and trying new restaurants.
Cole Griscavage - Assistant Coach
Coach Cole is from Lafayette and began his swim career with LMYA Swim when he was seven years old! At 12, Cole began swimming year-round for Orinda Aquatics and continues to swim for OA. Cole has junior coached for LMYA Swim for the past 5 years. He is currently attending and swimming for Swarthmore College.
Ryan Iannaccone - Assistant Coach
Introducing Ryan Iannaccone, a dedicated swimmer and experienced coach. Coach Ryan's swimming journey began at the age of 3 in the East Bay, where he developed a lifelong passion for the sport. At 22 years old, he recently completed his fourth year of Division 1 swimming at Cal Poly, where he successfully earned his degree in Business Administration. With three years of coaching experience at LMYA, he looks forward to the upcoming season and the prospect of achieving another win in the coaches relay event.
Stephanie Iannaccone - Assistant Coach
Coach Stephanie grew up in Concord and was a 2023 graduate of Carondelet High School. She was a recreational swimmer from age 4 to 11 and has been swimming on the Walnut Creek Aquabears ever since. She will be attending Harvard in the fall to swim for their Division I program. A member of the Guatemalan National Team, she currently holds three national records in breaststroke and IM. This will be Stephanie's first year as assistant coach, but she has teaching private lessons for the last couple of years. She enjoys hanging out with her friends and family in her free time.
Scott Iannaccone - Assistant Coach
Coach Scott grew up in Concord and graduated from De La Salle High School in 2023. As a recreational swimmer from age 4 to 11, Scott has been swimming on the Walnut Creek Aquabears ever since. He will be attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the fall to swim for their Division I program. He is also a member of the Guatemalan National Team. Scott has been giving private lessons for the past two years, and this will be his first year as an assistant coach. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music and watching movies.
Tom Jansen - Assistant Coach
Coach Tom grew up in Pleasant Hill and started swimming at age 6. He is a 2022 graduate of the University of Redlands with a BA in Psychology and is currently completing a Human Resources Management Certificate Program. He was a 5-year collegiate swimmer focused on the 500 yd. freestyle, 1000 yd. freestyle, and the 1650 yd. freestyle (mile). He recently lived out his dream of going to the Division III NCAA Championship representing the Bulldogs where he placed 21 in the 500 and 9th in the 1650, and was named All-American. Tom has been an assistant coach for the past 2 summers. When he is not around a pool, he enjoys biking, listening to music, and hanging out with friends.
