Hello Dolfin Families!

It seems crazy that we are already starting week 5! This week we will be focusing on IM. For those of you who don't know, an IM is an Individual Medley where the swimmer swims one lap of each stroke (Fly, Back, Breast, Free). All swimmers 7 & Up can swim this event at meets. So we will be reviewing all four strokes and working on IM turns.

We have made a lot of progress with stroke technique but it takes a lot of practice and a lot of corrections to become proficient, especially in butterfly & breaststroke. Kids learn at different rates so it is really important that you don't compare swimmers. I guarantee that you will see A LOT of improvement over the season.

TIME TRIALS is on May 23. This meet is a chance for all swimmers to get a starting time for the season in all events. We run this meet IM first followed by Free, Breast, Back & Fly. Warm-ups will start at 8am and the meet will run from 9am-12pm. Please sign your swimmer into the meet for whatever events they are able to swim. If you have a conflict and can't make it then your swimmer will get times at other meets. If you need to come late or leave early then sign in for the events they can make. If you don't know how to sign your swimmer into meets in Team Unify, make sure you attend the Parent Zoom meeting on May 20.

We have had a few schedule changes so keep an eye out for updates on the meet schedule. Pay close attention to our weekly email for important meet entry deadlines. Dual meets close about a week ahead of time but Invitational meets usually close 3 weeks before the meet. Our first Invitational meet is the Pentathlon on June 19 & 20.

I don't recommend this meet for new swimmers but I will make exceptions for this so if you are unsure please ask me. Saturday is for 9/10 girls and all younger swimmers and Sunday is for 9/10 boys and all older swimmers.

Remember that this is our last week at the Park Pool. All practices, starting next Monday will be at the Ed Center Pool at the back of the Pleasant Hill Middle School Campus. Please park on the football field side of the campus.

See you on the pool deck!

Practice Location

Practice moves to the Education Center Pool (1 Santa Barbara Road) on Monday, May 17 for ALL age groups, including minis.  Practice times remain the same.

All Dolfins swimmers, parents and coaches should park in the main parking lot (between the track and campus) or the blacktop area by the tennis courts.  Dolfins should NOT park in the Adult Ed Parking lot at the Ed Center.  The gate on the Adult Ed side of the pool will be locked and you will not be able to enter the pool from the Adult Ed parking lot.  We (and Adult Ed) appreciate your cooperation in leaving the Adult Ed Parking lot open for Adult Ed students.

 Work Fee Checks

All families must submit a $500 work fee check to the Pleasant Hill Dolfins.  Work fee checks are not cashed unless work assignments are not completed.  Checks can be turned into the pool office when your swimmer checks in for practice or to the District Office.

Hello Dolfin families,

First, I would like to remind everyone that this Wednesday, May 12th at 8am the job sign up for the Saturday, May 15th set up day/work party will open. Set up will begin at 7 am.

Second, we have several season long jobs that need to be filled. Taking on a season long job will fulfill your regular shift point requirement for the season.   Please take a moment to read the job descriptions below and see if any of the positions would be a good fit for your family.

For each of the jobs below a team (lead by a team leader) will work together to create their own schedule for working shifts at meets:

  • Starter/Ref (3 positions available) - The starter and the ref work together to manage the pace of the meet, including starting the swimmers for each heat.  You will be trained for this position prior to your first shift.
  • Stroke & Turn Judge (7 positions available) -  Watch the swimmers in each race looking for irregularities, writing disqualification slips as needed.  You will be trained for this position prior to your first shift.
  • Desk (7 positions available) - Includes a front row seat to watch the meets as you work as a team to manage the timing system, the timing slips from the timers, and generating the ribbon labels and meet results.  You will be trained for this position prior to your first shift.
  • Snack Shack (5 positions available) - Work with the snack shack team leads to prepare and sell food at home meets.
  • Announcer (2 positions available) - Announce each event and keep the meet moving in a timely manner.  You will be trained for this position prior to your first shift.

If you have any questions about these jobs or if you are ready to sign right up please email me at [email protected].

Happy swimming

KC DeSilva
