2022 Swim Team Coaching Staff

Head Coach - Haley Darr

Hey Seahorses! My name is Coach Haley and I am so excited for this 2022 swim season! I have been a Seahorse since I was 5 years old and it is where I fell in love with swimming. This love took me to swim at Clayton Valley Charter High School and Diablo Valley College, where I also went on to coach for both schools. I am currently pursuing a nursing degree at San Diego State University and plan on going into pediatric nursing after graduation. Ygnacio Wood has given me so much and I am so thankful for this team because it is truly something amazing. I have had some of my life’s greatest experiences on Ygnacio’s pool deck and know that we are going to make even more amazing memories this summer. Get ready Seahorses, this season is going to be incredible. GOOOOOOOOO Ygnacio!

Coach - Olivia Patterson

Hello all Seahorses! My name is Coach Olivia and I’m super excited to be a part of this great coaching staff this year! I am currently a freshman at the University of San Diego.  I joined Ygnacio back in 2006 where I completed Seaponies and joined the team.  Since the moment I started on this team, I have always wanted to be a coach and words cannot describe how truly excited I am for this summer to start.  I could not imagine spending my summers anywhere else but on the decks of Ygnacio!  I am eager to continue giving back to a team that has given me so much. I’ll see you all very soon!!  Let’s go Ygancio!!

Coach - Kai Welsh

Hello, my name is Kai Welsh and this will be my third year as an Ygnacio Woods swim coach.  I have 14 years of swimming experience and have swum a lot of laps in our pool.  I currently attend the University of San Diego and am studying marketing and communications.

Swimmer Coach - Tommy Meriam

What’s up Seahorses! My name is Tommy, and I’m super excited to be a coach this year! I am graduating from Northgate High School this year and heading to college next year. I enjoy hanging out with my friends, family, and playing many sports, especially swim. I’ve been swimming since I was 5 years old and my favorite strokes are free and fly. I can’t wait to watch everyone crush their goals and have a blast this summer. Goooooo Ygnacio!

Spring Season Coach - Jimmy Costello

Hey everyone, my name is Jimmy Costello, and I am so excited to be coaching this spring! I have been swimming since I was seven years old and although I did not grow up on Ygnacio Wood, I spent my last 3 (and favorite) years swimming and coaching for this amazing team. I am currently studying and swimming at Diablo Valley College with hopes of transferring to UC Santa Cruz to swim there as well. Ever since I started as a kid, I have been hooked on swimming; I like to think of it as my passion. That's why I am so grateful for this opportunity and am thrilled to share that passion with this team! Go Seahorses!

Spring Season Swimmer Coach - Katie Willis

Hi Seahorses! My name is Katie Willis and I am going to be a Spring Coach for the 2022 swim season. I joined the team in 2009 when I was four years old, and I have been in love with Ygnacio ever since. I am looking forward to seeing returning Seahorses and meeting new ones this coming season. This season is going to be another amazing and memorable season to remember for all. Let's swim fast and make some memories we will never forget. LETS GO SEAHORSES!!!

Part Time Coach - Cole Welsh

Hello Ygnacians! I am Coach Cole. I am thrilled to be coaching again in 2022, although it is only part time.  I have been swimming competitively for the past 15 years and have a range of experience amongst different team dynamics and coaching styles that have benefited me as a coach and person. Swimming is a passion of mine and sharing the love and appreciation of this sport through coaching is my goal. I challenge swimmers to keep improving their technique and encourage them to keep asking questions. There is always more to learn.

Junior Coaches - TBD

A brand new position to our team this year is the “Junior Coach.”  We’d like two or three of these coaches who will also be in high school and will still compete as 15-18 swimmers.  Their focus is specifically with the 6 and under swimmers and maybe the 7-8 group depending on the what the head coach needs.  More often than not, they’re in the pool helping demonstrate swimming technique.  These coaches will be announced as the season begins.

Meet Helpers - TBD

Another new position is the “Meet Helper.”  We’d like two of these helpers who are in the 13-14 age group.  Their role is limited to the swim meets, specifically to help get the 6 and under swimmers ready for their upcoming races.  These helpers will be announced as the season begins.
