Official Training

Jessica Johnson

All Dual Meets, Invitational's and Championships are run by Officials to ensure that all swimmers are following the USA Swimming Stroke and Turn Rules.

  • Parents who haver never been an official must take a short two hour class to learn the rules for each stroke, individual medley and relays.  There is an additional class to become a Starter for officials who have at least two years experience in officiating stroke and turn. (See the training dates below).
  • If you were an Official last year you must take an online refresher class to be an 2019 Official.  If you pass the class you are still more than welcome to attend a class if you choose to but its not required.  The DSA Official Exam 2019 testing link https://www.classmarker.com/online-test/start/?quiz=pmc5b10801c9fcb7  Click and follow the directions
  • Officials who were Starters / Referees last year must attend a class every year.
  • If you are a Current YMCA or US Official, please send a copy of your credentials to Scott Allen, the officials chairperson dsaofficial@usa.com at least two weeks prior to the start of the Swim Season and you will be issued a Delmarva Swim Association Badge for officiating in our league.
  • Badges must be displayed on a white polo shirt.

DSA Officials must get re-trained every season and badges are issued for one year and expire on the date of the May Annual Meeting.

This season, 2019 the Delmarva Swim Association will be holding only 4 Officials Clinics for the training of new officials. The Officials training will cover stroke and turn rules followed by starters training including how to arrange officials on deck.
