Updates from the LTST Directors: May 31, 2021

Marisa Canoles

Dear Seahorse Families,

Congratulations - you've made it through a most incredible school year!  Now we can focus on FUN with our community at LT.  Here are the things we would like you to know this week:

On Tuesday, June 1st at 7pm, we will be hosting a Q & A meeting for parents.  If you have questions for the Directors or Coaches, please join us for this opportunity to ask!  Please also feel welcome to send questions in advance for  [email protected].  We will record this Zoom, so even if you can't make it, we'll address those questions and you'll be able to view the recording.  Join us via Zoom  HERE.

The Summer Season starts on Tuesday, June 1, which means workouts move to the  mornings.  Please review the summer practice schedule  HERE
Notes for the new practice schedule:
  • If your 13/14 swimmer was working out with the 11/12s during Pre-Season, they no longer need to do so.  We have separated the 13/14 and 15-18 practices to allow for a less crowded pool.
  • We will be initiating Dry Land workouts for the first 10 minutes of each practice session.  Dry Land will be led in the parking lot aisle closest to the trail.  Please have your swimmer arrive to practice wearing athletic shoes.

Parents, please feel welcome to come within the pool gates during summer practices to watch your swimmer.  We have reached a point where this feels comfortable, but we do ask that you continue to wear your mask while within the pool gates (just like at swim meets).   Please stay on the lawn near the snack shack, which will be the designated parent area.  We would like to keep the other lawn available for the swimmers' belongings and Mudskipper Circle Time.  Please keep younger siblings close to you.  The baby pool remains closed during swim team practices.  Remember that practice time is  not the best time to approach coaches with questions.  If you have a question for the coaching staff, please email the Directors -  [email protected] - and we'll forward to the appropriate coach.

Please remember to drop off (or arrive with) your swimmer just 5 minutes before their designated practice time.  A prompt pickup after your swimmer's practice time remains important for safety.
We have received questions from a few families along these lines:   My kids swim at two different practice times.  May they ride their bikes together to practice, and wait for one another to then ride home together after the later practice ends?  Unfortunately, there is no one at the pool to supervise siblings who are waiting.  The coaches need to be focused on the swimmers in the water, and we cannot have young kids on deck without supervision.  However, now that parents are invited on deck during practices, if there is a parent with whom you are friendly and who would be able to take responsibility for your swimmers while they are waiting, that is fine!   We just don't have anyone on the pool/team side who can keep an eye on kids in an official capacity.  Thanks for understanding and adhering to this.

The first day of the Summer Season calls for a special treat!  Swimmers (LTST and MS / DS) will be offered a donut on their way out of practice on Tuesday, June 1st.  This also kicks off our summer Spirit Activities!  LTST swimmers have been placed on one of four Spirit Teams reflecting our summer theme .... LT: The Lost Treasure!  Check the posters near the baby pool to see which Spirit Team your swimmer is on: Rubies, Sapphires, Emeralds or Pearls.  There are also spirit bracelets in each swimmer's folder in the Ribbon Boxes on the bench by the gate.

June 1 marks the first day of the 2021 Mudskipper and Developmental Seahorse program.  MS / DS Parents, please keep an eye out for a separate email welcoming you and your swimmer.  LTST Families: Please help us welcome the MS / DS families by introducing yourself and answering questions if you can!  We did not offer the Mudskipper program in 2020, so nearly every MS / DS family is new to Las Trampas.

Wednesday, June 2 we will be hosting LMYA @ Las Trampas.  The registration deadline for this meet has now passed.  Please keep an eye out for the finalized meet timeline on Tuesday.
Saturday, June 5 will be an Away meet at  Springwood Swim Club in Concord. This marks our first DCSL League dual meet of the season.  Please commit to the meet before Wednesday, June 2 by clicking the red  Edit Commitment button (may also appear as "Attend/Decline" depending on whether or not you are logged in to the website.

Please email the Directors as soon as you know a swimmer will be unavailable at a meet:  [email protected].  We'll inform the appropriate Desk Officials and Coaching staff.

Was your swimmer disqualified in a race?  Would you like to learn more about the technical details that Stroke and Turn officials are judging during races?  The following YouTube videos were produced by USA Swimming, the governing body for the sport of swimming in the United States.  Originally intended as training videos for Stroke and Turn Officials, these videos are also helpful and interesting to parents who wish to learn more about the specific details that Officials are looking for when judging races.  These have also been posted in the  FAQ section of the website.
