Las Trampas offers two different programs for our pre-swim team children: Mudskippers and Developmental Seahorses.

Both programs are run under the guidance of our head coach, Andrew Preston.  The Head Mudskipper coach is Andreas Ramirez.

June 1 and 2:  Coaches will conduct assessments these first two days to determine which group is appropriate for each swimmer's ability level. Beginning June 3, swimmers will attend their assigned practice group/time as identified by the coaches.

Practice runs Monday - Friday from June 1st to July 13th.  Practice times will be announced soon, tentatively 12:30 - 1:00 PM daily.

Fourth of July Holiday: no practices July 1st to July 5th.  Practices resume on Tuesday, July 6th.

2021 Mudskippers Program

Mudskippers is a pre-swim team program.  Mudskipper participants can expect to have fun, meet and make friends, and work on swim skills, strength, and endurance necessary to become an LT Seahorse.  The shared goal of the Mudskipper program is for swimmers to complete 25 yards freestyle without stopping.

Mudskippers receive instruction from 14-18 year old LTST swimmers, under the supervision of the Mudskippers Head Coach, Andreas Ramirez. The instructor to swimmer ratio will vary daily but is typically 2-3 swimmers per in-water coach.

Is your child ready to be a Mudskipper?

1. Must be at least 3 years old as of June 15, 2021
2. Is comfortable in the water and enters pool voluntarily
3. Is able to float on front and back with support
4. Is able to exhale underneath water surface (i.e., blow bubbles)
5. Is able to kick on front and on back with support
6. Typical age range for Mudskippers is 3 to 5 years old.

The Mudskipper season culminates in a Mudskipper Debut on Tuesday, July 13th where Mudskippers show us what they have learned!  Typically, friends and family are invited to this event.  As this date gets closer, we will keep you apprised of our ability to invite spectators on deck. Coaches will be in the water to lend a helping hand if needed.

2021 Developmental Seahorse Program

Our Developmental Seahorse team is designed for those swimmers who have met all the qualifications for a Mudskipper and are swim safe, but are not yet able to swim a full 25 yards without stopping to tread water, hang on the lane line, or hold onto a coach.

Is your child ready to be a Developmental Seahorse?

1. Has prior swimming lesson experience
2. Is able to jump into deep water and return to wall
3. Is able to submerge to a depth of 3-feet and retrieve an object
4. Is able to swim (any style) at least 5 yards unassisted
5. Can approximate at least two of the four competitive strokes
6. Typical age range for Developmental Seahorses is 4-6 years old.

The goal for our Developmental Seahorses is to gain the confidence and skills enabling them to join the swim team for the last Home meet of the season, which will be July 7th, 2021.  With parent approval, Developmental Seahorses will swim against each other in one event (race) at that Home meet.

There are no volunteer requirements for families with just Mudskippers/Developmental Seahorses, and costs for both programs are the same.

Program Cost and Key Dates

Mudskipper / Developmental Seahorse Program Cost: Tentatively $350.  The final program cost will be published closer to Registration date.  Additional processing fee applies to all charges.  Registration is required for each swimmer before entering the water.
