Band Testing at Fox Hollow

All children ages 12 years old and younger (guests as well as members) are required to pass a swimming proficiency test to be permitted in the main pool unaccompanied by a parent or responsible adult swimmer.  All band holders will have their names recorded in the band book for future reference.

(Tri-county qualifiers are exempt from band testing)

There will be three bands (High, Middle, and Low) of different colors.

The High Band will allow access to the entire pool, including the diving well.

The Middle Band will allow access to the shallow and deeper areas of the pool, NOT including the diving well.

The Low Band will allow access to the shallow end of the pool only.

Any child 12 years old or younger who has not passed any band test will only be permitted in the pool if they are accompanied (in the water within an arm’s reach) by a parent or responsible adult swimmer.

Members who forget their bands may borrow, one time only, a guest band (of a different color) which must be returned at the end of the day.  A $1 refundable deposit is required.  After the first time, members who forget their band (or who have lost their band) will be required to purchase a new band for $1.

Guests who pass the band test will receive a guest band, which must be returned at the end of the day.  A $1 refundable deposit is required.  Repeat guests will not have to repeat the band test, as their names will have been recorded in the band book.

Requirements

  1.  All swimming tests must be done using a forward stroke (breaststroke or “freestyle”), to the satisfaction of the lifeguard or manager.  No “doggie paddling” or stopping for a rest will be allowed.  The determination of whether the tests have been successfully completed will be made by the lifeguard or the manager, and must be considered final. A swimmer who does not successfully complete a band test will have to wait until at least the next day before attempting another band test, and will have to be re-tested by a manager, not a lifeguard.
  2. High Band- Swim two lengths of the pool without stopping, then immediately tread water for two minutes, then jump or dive off the diving board.
  3. Middle Band- Swim one length of the pool, then immediately tread water for one minute.
  4. Low Band- Walk or swim (with any stroke) to the shallow end rope and back to the wall, unaccompanied and unaided by anyone, without stopping or touching the wall, and without crying or showing emotional distress.
