Welcome to our 18th year of competition and thank you for your interest in joining the Holly Hills Hurricanes for the 2023 summer swim season!  The Holly Hills Swim Team invites children ages 4* - 18 of Holly Hills Country Club Members, who are in good standing, to join the team for a summer of competitive and recreational swimming. The Holly Hills Swim Team participates in the Frederick County Summer Swim League which provides structured competition by age categories for both boys and girls events.

Practices begin June 5 and run through July. There will be five planned swim meets, plus time trials, on:

  • June 10 (Time Trials at Holly Hills)
  • June 17 (Home Meet)
  • June 24 (Away Meet)
  • July 8 (Away Meet)
  • July 15 (Home Meet)
  • July 22 (Away Meet)

If your swimmer qualifies, All Stars will be held on July 29. An end of season awards banquet will be held on Aug. 2.

The registration fee is $185 per family and $60 per swimmer. Invoicing for swim team will be reflected on your member statement ending June 30.

*The Holly Hills Hurricanes would like all interested swimmers to join our team. Our youngest members (typically ages 4-6) are part of our “Polar Cub” group and the practices are similar to a group swim lesson. It is not required that your child can swim the length of the pool unassisted, however we do encourage all swim team members to demonstrate some comfort and familiarity with the water. For example, children should enter the water willingly and without swim floaties, be able to put their face in the water and blow bubbles, and show a desire to push off the wall and swim.

If you feel your child is ready for Swim Team, please register. We will evaluate each child during the first few weeks of practice and reach out to anyone we feel may need more individual attention than the Swim Team can offer. Families are able to cancel their swim team registration at no penalty until June 14.

All children are invited and encouraged to participate in the swim meets. Even if they don’t log an official swim time, they’ll make some amazing memories that will foster a love for the sport. Please feel free to contact a Swim Team Board member if you have questions!

Parent Volunteer Requirement

Updated this year! Parent volunteers are essential to the operation of the Holly Hills Swim Team. Without support from every swim team family, we would be unable to provide the fun and quality experience your athletes enjoy each summer. And because volunteer help is especially critical to the smooth running of the swim meets and other Hurricane events, it is mandatory that each family volunteer to work at least one (1) swim meet this summer.

There are many ways to help such as setup before and after meets, concessions, race timing, and more. To be able to meet our volunteer needs, we are asking each family to commit to working one entire swim meet. When swim team officially begins in early June, a sign-up link will be circulated to all parents to sign up for the volunteer positions for each meet.

For families who have young children on swim team (labeled as “Polar Cub”) who are not yet able to compete in races, there will be other volunteer opportunities, such as fun food Fridays and ribbon labelling, available to satisfy this requirement. For these families, the requirement is a minimum of four (4) hours of volunteer time.

After a family meets the requirement of volunteering at one swim meet, every additional volunteer opportunity they sign up for will automatically enter the family into a raffle to win a prize from Holly Hills Country Club.

In the event a family does not volunteer for at least one meet (or at least four hours for Polar Cub swimmers) by the end of the regular meet season (regular season concludes with the July 22nd meet), that family will be charged a fee of $250, to be applied automatically to their Holly Hills monthly member statement.
