THOUGHTS ABOUT PRACTICE. IT DOES MAKE PERFECT!

Come to swim practice! Swimming is a sport that must be practiced consistently to improve, and this year, it is all we have!  We encourage swimmers to attend a minimum of 3 practices a week when in town.

COOL WEATHER DAYS: If the temperature dips below 60 degrees we may not swim, but we will be active on deck with stretching, dry land exercises, and general discussion about swimming.  Warm clothing is appropriate on all cool and/or rainy days because the water is cold!

WEATHER: VG DOES NOT PRACTICE IN LIGHTNING OR THUNDER! VG will practice in light rain but not during heavy downpours!   In the event of lightning or thunder, we need to clear the pool deck, so if you hear thunder while your swimmer is at practice, please come pick him/her up.

RULES FOR PARENTS AT PRACTICE: Parents are welcome at practice, but:

  • This year, all parents must observe practice from outside the pool gate and practice appropriate social distancing. Feel free to bring your own lawn chair if you plan to watch practice.
  • No siblings will be allowed to utilize the baby pool during practice. If you must use the restroom, there will be on a strict ‘one-in-one-out’ policy. Use of the playground is at your own discretion and not under coach/team supervision.
  • The coaches are available in between practices for brief questions concerning swimmers' progress or other parental concerns.  We are available by email if you can’t catch us in between practices – coach@villagegreengators.com.

COMINGS AND GOINGS FROM PRACTICE: Because we will be sanitizing in between practices and limiting the number of swimmers on deck, please leave promptly after your practice is over. Prior to your practice beginning, all swimmers will wait outside the gate. This year we will also have several groups doing dryland/cardio in the field at the Monticello pool.

PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY NEAR THE POOL AND THROUGH OUR NEIGHBORHOOD!!!

RIDING BIKES: It is great to see kids ride their bikes to practice, but SAFELY!!  Riding a bike in the rain is not safe.  Brakes in the rain do not perform well, and roads are slick.  Please don’t send your swimmer to practice on a bike in the rain – it is safer to walk!

SWIMMERS WHO RIDE THEIR BIKES TO PRACTICE ARE EXPECTED TO WEAR HELMETS!!!

ABOUT SUNSCREEN: Please apply all sunscreen to your swimmer at home, at least 30 minutes before they would get in the water.  If you wait until you get to the pool, it does not adequately “soak in”, and in fact, only comes right off and contaminates our pool water.
