Gator Family Obligations
The Brentwood Gators swim team is a competitive, summer swim team for members of the Brentwood Swim Club. We swim in the River City Racers swim league against other summer teams. The team is professionally coached with the goals of teaching the four competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breast stroke and butterfly), personal improvement, physical fitness and fun! The season runs from the end of May through the middle of July. Practices are held every weekday by age group. Everyone is welcome on our team regardless of experience or skill level.
FOR TEAM FAMILIES: All team families have 3 major responsibilities:
1. Declare every swimmer for every meet (i.e. tell us if your swimmer will be there). We highly encourage you to do this for all meets at the very start of the season. If plans change, you can always go in and change it at any time. Directions for declaring are under the "Swim Meets" tab of this website.
2. Sign up for and perform 3 volunteer jobs during the season plus one additional job during the conference meet. Regardless of the number of swimmers in your family, parents need to complete 3 jobs during the dual season and 1 job at conference if your child is swimming in the conference meet. Instructions for volunteer sign up and volunteer job descriptions are described under the tab "Volunteering" on this website.
3. Bring your swimmers to practice on time! Our coaches appreciate prompt swimmers and can really help the entire team when everyone is ready to go on time.
Oh, and #4: Have Fun! This is a summer recreational league designed for our kids to learn how to be part of a team and show good sportsmanship, in addition to learning some great swimming techniques for a life long love of the sport! |
Questions and Clarification about Volunteering:
The Brentwood Gators Swim Team runs (awesomely!) on parent volunteers! Every family must work at least 3 volunteer shifts during the regular dual meet season this year, plus one shift during conference meet if your child is swimming at conference.
The more helpers we have, the easier each job is, so don’t be shy, and sign up for your jobs right away!
When can I sign up?
The volunteer sign up pages online should be available in late May, when most swimmers will be registered and all meets are put in to the computer.
Do I still have to volunteer if my kid is not swimming in meets?
Short Answer: Yes.
Long Answer: Yes. The Brentwood Gators are a team and we highly encourage all swimmers to participate in the meets. The experience is an important part of growing as a swimmer, a team mate, and a person! If you will not be swimming in meets, we do not recommend you join the team.
We understand there may be special cases in which swimmers cannot be in meets. We encourage you to discuss your situation with the coaches and parent reps as soon as possible. However, families of non-meet swimmers are also part of the team and also have the 3 job requirement.
Parent testimonials:
"Volunteering was a great way to get to know the kids my child was hanging around with this summer."
"Helping out in the bull pen made the sometimes loooong meets go by quickly!"
"I didn't grow up on a swim team. I love that my kids are building summer memories that include evenings spent outdoors with friends, swimming, and games in the bull pen!"
Note: To ensure that the team has enough volunteers for every meet to run smoothly, the registration documents include a contract stating that a $250 charge will be assessed at the end of the season for all families that have not fulfilled their volunteer obligation.
