High Point Swim Club

Hello Members!

We had an awesome Opening Day this week (thanks to Dan and the pool staff) with high temperatures and lots of sunshine... and then we had to close the pool in the afternoon two days in a row due to bad weather! There doesn’t seem to be any rain in the forecast in the days ahead, however, so we hope to see more of you at the pool this weekend!

Speaking of the weekend… time slots for both Saturday and Sunday will be open on Thursday evening starting at 7:00 PM. We know the reservation system is kinda tricky at first and time slots are going fast, but people seem to be getting the hang of it… and we think that making this change should give more families an opportunity to get a spot at the pool this weekend. While we all wish that we could come to the pool every day like we could in previous years… please consider signing up for time slots only every other day to accommodate our membership numbers while operating at this reduced pool capacity. We are thankful for everyone’s flexibility and consideration of others!

A couple of notes about signups:
- Please sign up for time blocks under your own account. If a friend (who is a member at High Point) asks you to sign them up for pool time, ask them to provide their login info so you can sign them up under their own account.
- Please remember to indicate which family members will be at the pool by entering names in the OTHER CONTACT box.

We did a pretty good job as a High Point community social distancing at the pool. But quarantine is not over and social distancing is still very important.

In fact, Dan the MAN(ager) has something to say about it…

Q:  Hey Dan, I saw a group of about five or six 15 year-old girls together at the pool and they were very close to each other. Can you have the managers or lifeguards throw something at them to enforce social distancing?

A:  I saw that group as well and I know that if I were their parents, I would be concerned. I will say it again, the pool staff is not going to enforce social distancing. The lifeguards are definitely not going to do this. We need parents to show up and keep their kids apart. We know the teenagers aren’t reading my emails, so please remind your kids -- no matter what age they are. Not only are they at risk if they ignore social distancing, but it also sends a really bad message to the younger kids.

Okay, in other news... Effective Monday, June 15th, there are some minor changes to the daily pool schedule.

Monday - Sunday: Open Swim from 10:30 AM to 9:00 PM . Signup required for the following time slots:

10:30 AM - 12:15 PM
12:30 - 2:15 PM
2:30 - 4:15 PM
4:30 - 6:15 PM
6:30 - 8:15 PM
No sign-up required for 8:15 - 9:00 PM

And starting Sunday, June 21st:

  • Sunday morning (8:30 AM - 9:30 AM) is Adult-only lap swimming (sign-up details to follow in future newsletter)

  • Sunday morning (9:30 AM - 10:30 AM) is lap swimming for Swim Team (sign-up through coaches)

Now for something we have all been waiting for… an update on Lap Swimming during Open Swim!

Two lanes are available for lap swimming (with priority to adults) during the hours between 10:30 AM and 9:00 PM.

  • Reservation of a pool time slot is required.

  • Children under 18 can use the lanes for lap swimming when no adults are waiting.

  • There is a 30 minute time limit for lap swimming.

  • The chairs located outside the boys locker room exit door may be used for Lap Swimmers to place their belongings.

  • RED cones are available to place at the end of a lap lane to indicate that someone is waiting to swim next (this helps both staff and lap swimmers; ask a staff member to get a cone for you).

  • Members of the same household (e.g. parents and siblings) can share a lane.

Swim and Dive Team… we know there are lots of questions about these programs as they are getting ready to start next Monday. A separate email communication was sent early this morning with schedule info and more.

Finally… get the calendar out! Dan Maloney (aka Dan the Man… aka Disco Dan… aka Trivia Dan) has some ideas on how we can still do a Trivia Night / Pool FUN-draiser safely with social distancing. When? Saturday, July 18th. More details to follow.

Thanks again to everyone for their patience!  It has been a good start so far.
