Head Coach: Joan Smith

Joan Smith will be taking on the Head Coach role for the Johnson Ranch Barracudas starting in 2022. In addition to already being a part of the Barracudas' family, Joan brings over 20 years of coaching expereince and a lifetime of swimming experience to lead the Barracudas starting with the 2022 swim season. 

Joan began swimming at the age of 7 and continued to train & compete through the National level with the renown De Anza Swim Club in Cupertino, CA.  After being pursued by several universities, Joan ultimately accepted a swimming scolarship with the Division I powerhouse, University of Miami, Florida. 

During her collegiate years, Joan started coaching & teaching swim lessons with the Cupertino Hills Swim and Racquet Club and The Santa Clara Swim Club.  Joan took a long hiatus from coaching to pursue her career at HP (22 years) and start a family, but ultimately returned to coaching with Quicksilver Swimming in San Jose, CA, where she spent 10 years working with all levels a​nd age groups. After moving to Granite Bay 6 years ago, Joan continued her love for coaching by joining the coaching staff at the Johnson Ranch Barracudas and has been a positive force for our kids and our team ever since.

Her philosophy is simple; technique first and speed will come!
