Description of Levels-
Level 1:
· Enter and exit water using a ladder, steps, or side
· Blow bubbles through mouth and nose
· Bobbing
· Open eyes underwater and retrieve submerged objects
· Front and back glides and back float
· Recover to a vertical position from a front glide and back float
· Roll from front to back and back to front
· Alternating and simultaneous leg actions on front and back
· Alternating and simultaneous arm actions on front and back
· Combined arm and leg actions on front and back
Level 2:
· Fully submerge, holding breath for 3 seconds
· Retrieve object from the pool bottom
· Prone glide and recovery
· Back glide with recovery
· Rhythmic breathing - 10 times
· Flutter kick on back
· Arm action for back crawl
· Combined stroke for front (5 yards)
· Orientation to deep water
· Basic use of a lifejacket
Level 3:
· Retrieve an object from the pool bottom
· Bob in water overhead to safety
· Jumping in safely
· Prone glide with push-off
· Back glide with a push-off
· On front, arm stroke 10 yards with breathing to the side
· Back crawl, 10 yards
· Dive from poolside (kneeling or compact)
· Treading
· Elementary backstroke (kick)
· Changing directions while swimming
Level 4:
· Deepwater bobbing - 10 times
· Experiment with floating and demonstrate comfort with each - jellyfish, tuck, prone, and supine
· Rotary Breathing
· Standing front dive from the side of the pool
· Elementary backstroke - 10 yards
· Sculling on back
· Front crawl 25 yards with rotary breathing
· Back crawl 25 yards
· Tread- all three kicks - two minutes any kick
· Breaststroke - kick for 10 yards with or without support
Level 5:
· Alternating breathing
· Stride jump entry
· Diving progressions
· Long shallow dive
· Breaststroke - 10 yards
· Sidestroke - 10 yards
· Swimming underwater- 3 body lengths
· Elementary backstroke -25 yards
· Dolphin kick - 10 yards with or without support
· Front crawl - 50 yards
· Back crawl - 50 yards
· Open turn on front and back
· Tread water - 2 minutes with 2 different kicks
· Standing dive from the diving board
