The Bunkey Lewis Award

The Bunkey Lewis Award was established in 1991 to recognize a Demon who's sportsmanship in swimming and dedication to the Demons and the sport has made him or her a role model for the rest of the team. The recipient of the award is a dedicated Demon but not necessarily the fastest swimmer in the age group. Swimmers in the 15-18 year old age group are eligible for the honor.

The Christine Roe Award

Christine Roe’s motto was "Live, Love and Laugh." She applied that motto in full to the Darnestown Demons Swim Team.

LIVE – From the late 1980's and early 1990's when daughters Jordan and Genevieve became Demons, Christine lived for the Darnestown Swim Team. She was a committed parent, an eager timer, and a diligent stroke & turn judge. She was also a gracious host, making chocolate éclair cakes for the officials at home meets.

LOVE – Christine loved every Demon swimmer. She was a loud and enthusiastic fan for every swimmer and every race. She even loved future Demons, melding her skills from starting and running a preschool, teaching small children, and instructing swimming and lifesaving, to create and lead the Demons pre-team for a number of years. Christine’s pre-team developed young children as swimmers and readied them to become successful swim team members.

LAUGH – Christine believed that hard work should be balanced with lots of fun. She organized the first raft and movie night for the team, now a DSRC tradition, providing one evening each summer when swim team members could laugh, play and watch movies from the comfort of their rafts and tubes in the Darnestown pool. Christine chose to live, love and laugh her last summer, 1999, as a Darnestown Demon, bald head from chemotherapy and all. Her memory inspires each us to live each day to the fullest.

The Christine Roe Award is for the most improved swimmers was established in 2000.  The honor is awarded to two swimmers, one boy and one girl, from any age group who have shown growth as a swimmer during the season.

The Bob Norr Award

On January 8, 2012  we lost Bob Norr, our beloved and longtime Demon swim team member and coach. We feel his loss everyday and remember him daily. This award and a charitable contribution is given in his memory. The honor is given to a swimmer/coach who shares Bob's love of Darnestown, coaching and helping others.
