Group Lessons
Who: Open to all swimmers ages four to seven who are members of DSRC. Three year-olds who can submerge their head and face below the water surface, and can float on their stomach can also participate. Coach Pat will evaluate all three year-old swimmers the first week of group lessons.
When: Beginning Monday, June 19 and ending on Thursday July 20. Monday-Thursday 10:30 - 11:00am (morning). Monday- Thursday 5:00 - 5:30pm and 5:30 - 6:00pm (evening).
Cost: Lessons cost $135 per swimmer for the entire session, you can't find a better deal than that anywhere! There is a $15 admin fee with each registration, so register all members of your family at the same time to avoid paying multiple regisration fees.
This season we will be using the SwimAmerica program. Swim experts designed SwimAmerica to help prevent early childhood drowning. Our step-by-step skill progressions are exceptionally effective in teaching water safety, swimming and other water skills your child will use for the rest of his or her life. The lessons are directly supervised by certified swim coaches and swimmers can progress through various swim levels as follows:
Group Lesson Levels
Level 1: Students who need to learn water adjustment skills. Students will be introduced to water entry, submersion of the face into the water, opening their eyes (with and without goggles), blowing bubbles, wall bobs with bubble blowing.
Level 2: Students who are already water adjusted. Students learn how to float on their stomach and back and recover to the standing position, jump bobs, streamline bobs, and front and back glide and recovery for a minimum of 5 seconds.
Level 3: Students who can already float on their back and stomach will learn how to front and back kick glide and recovery, dolphin kick and glide, kicking on stomach and back using a kickboard, streamline kick and glide.
Level 4: Students who streamline kick with and without a kickboard will learn how to rollover front to back and back to front, side glide kick, front crawl arm strokes 20 feet ( across the shallow end of the pool), and somersault.
Levels 5 & 6:
Once students have move past level 4, they will move on to Pre-Team, which is level 5 and 6. Levels 5 and 6 focus on swimming freestyle with rotary breathing, swimming 25 meters (one length of the pool), backstroke, and learning how to dive into the pool. Once students pass the skills in these levels, they are encouraged, but not required, to enter swim meets.
