Our Final Week of Summer - 2021

Superstars And Divisionals

These meets are the culmination of the summer and what a summer it has been.  We end with a record of 4-1 – not bad at all considering we moved up to a tougher Division.  And how excited were we all just to be swimming.  So this last week allows us to celebrate.

We start with Superstars – the one I like to call Divisionals for the majority of the team.  There are strict rules about swimming in Superstars and now that the Divisionals line up has been posted you can sign up, knowing your events.  So have at it.  Swim that stroke and aim for one of those BIG colorful horse ribbons.  Remember, events have ribbons for places 1 thru 12.

To recap, for those not swimming in Divisionals - you can only sign up for two stroke events plus IM in the Superstars meet (it is not like your traditional dual meet).  If you are swimming two events in Divisionals, then you can’t swim Superstars.  If you are swimming one event in Divisionals, you can only swim one stroke event plus IM in Superstars.

There are no kickboard races in Superstars.

And if the BIG ribbons are not enough enticement – the Kingfish Kafe will be open on Wednesday night – adding jerk chicken skewers to the menu!

Superstars will be on Wednesday, July 21st at Kentlands.

And then we have Divisionals – the top two swimmers in each stroke event are chosen to swim in this meet with the coaches orchestrating the relays.  Seeding times are based on A meet results and all Divisional swimmers must have swum that event during the current season.   And just as in a dual meet, a swimmer cannot swim more than 3 stroke events, IM, and one relay.  The Coach will set the Divisionals line up.

Look for the line up (on the Documents Tab) and if you have questions regarding Divisionals or how to sign up for Superstars, please reach out to Yolanda Goettsch ([email protected]), Christy Shafer ([email protected]) for questions on Divisionals or Grant Cheung ([email protected]) for questions about Superstars.

Divisionals will be held at River Falls on Saturday, July 24th.

Superstars Pancake Breakfast

The traditional Superstars Pancake Breakfast will be held on Wednesday morning after all of the morning practices.  We begin with our 11-18 year olds at 9:15 (remember, they practice from 8:00-9:15) and end with our 8 & Unders and Pre Team.  Swimmers - eat to your hearts delight as parents serve up pancakes, fruit, sausage, juice, and milk.  Great way to carb up before Superstars!

50/50 Raffle to Benefit the Tree House Child Advocacy Center of MoCo

At the Superstars meet on Wednesday night we will have a 50/50 raffle to benefit the Tree House Child Advocacy Center of Montgomery County.   Raffle tickets will be sold for cash only.  The winner of the raffle will be announced at the halftime of the Superstars meet.

For your information, the Tree House provides critical services to abused and neglected children.  With your help, we will be able to ensure that more children have access to the therapy they need in order to heal and lead full, enriched lives.  For more information click on the following link:  (https://treehousemd.org)

End of Season Banquet

And after competing in Superstars and/or Divisionals, what better way to end our great season than with a Team banquet on the evening of Saturday, July 24th.   For those who are new to the Team, our banquet is a great event where we get to celebrate our swimmers and each other.  Good food.  Great conversation.  Trophies and Awards.  A Salute to our 2021 Graduates.  And that great Season Ending Video.

Please click on the SignUpGenius link below to sign up for the event:

We still need volunteers for all events this week:  the Superstars Pancake Breakfast, the Superstars meet, the Divisionals meet at River Falls, and the Banquet.  Please reach out to Mia Joellson and sign up.

Pre Team Follies

A huge thank you to all of our coaches who participated in the Pre Team Follies event last Friday.  You gave your pre team swimmers and their parents a great fun-filled hour – exactly what the parent of a summer swimmer wishes for.  It doesn’t get much better than watching these kids race and receive their trophy – an award for all of their hard work during the Summer of 2021.

Kingfish and Kidserve – School Supplies and Backpacks

Thank you to those that donated to our Kidserve project.  It was a huge success.  Thank you to Sooky McFadden and Shari Dunda, along with Mary Chu, for organizing the event.  Let’s do it again next year!

If you would like to volunteer for Gaithersburg CARES (where the backpacks are headed) please sign up:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a054da4ac28a3f94-july
