Roger Dent, Head Coach

Roger began swimming in the suburbs of New York when he was 7 and fell in love with the water. For 16 years he raced for the Long Island Aquatic Club and in his summers he competed in his local summer league for the Clinton G Martin Duckies. He was recruited for the University of Maryland College Park Swim Team for butterfly, breastroke, and IM. He taught at a weekly swim clinic while at UMD for local children ages 8-14. After graduating in 2011, he qualified and raced at the 2012 Olympic Trials in the 100 and 200 butterfly. In 2014, he joined the New York Athletic Club where he was nominated as captain of the Men's team from 2015-2019. Catherine Belyakov, Assistant Coach

Catherine Belyakov

Catherine is re-joining the Somerset Dolphins for the 2022 season as Assistant Coach for the Team and to oversee the Minis program, which she managed during the 2021 season. Catherine is a rising junior at Duke University where she swims Breast and IM. Prior to Duke, Catherine was a top swimmer at Quince Orchard High School, RMSC, and for the Quince Orchard Otters summer team (then Division B). Catherine was a six-time Maryland state champion swimmer, five-time NISCA All-American, set two records in the 100 Breast and 200 IM, and qualified for the U.S. Open in the 100 Breast as a junior. She was also a Metropolitan Champion in the 100 Breast and named to the Washington Post Winter All-Met First Team. Catherine holds numerous pool records across MCSL, holds the team records at Quince Orchard in the 15-18 Age Group in Free, Back, Breast, Fly, and IM, and holds the MCSL record in the 200M Freestyle Relay, set in 2019. In high school, she was a member of the National Honor Society, National English Society, Math Honors Society, and Rho Kappa Honors Society (social studies). Catherine is available for private lessons - please contact her directly at the email provided below.

 
Jane Umhofer, Assistant Coach
Jane is joining the Somerset Dolphins for the 2022 season as Assistant Coach. She is a rising sophomore at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she swims Breast and IM and majors in Atmospheric Science. Prior to college, Jane was a top swimmer and Junior Swim Coach for two years at Wildwood Manor Swim Team (Division A in 2021) in Bethesda, where she holds the team record for 100 Breast, set in 2021. She was also one of four captains of the Walter Johnson Swim Team, organizing team activities and spirit for the 80-person team. Jane was named USA Academic All-American for 2018 through 2021 and Potomac Valley Swimming Scholar-Athlete for 2017 through 2021. She holds the MCSL record in the 200 Medley Relay, set in 2021. Ronan Doherty, Junior Coach

This is Ronan Doherty’s second year as a Dolphin and first as a junior coach. Ronan is a rising senior at Bethesda Chevy Chase High School. He swims for the Capitol Sea Devils and for the BCC Swim and Dive Team. He is excited for his first year in a junior coaching role and is available for swim lessons! Miles Haraldsson, Junior Coach
This is Miles’s second year as a Junior Coach for Somerset. He was a minis coach for 2 years, and this summer will be his 11th year on the Somerset Swim team. He is a junior at B-CC high school, and he swims for the Capitol Sea Devils. He swims year-round and is excited for the summer season! He is also happy to give private lessons. David Panner, Junior Coach
This is David’s 3rd year as a junior coach on the Somerset swim team. He spent three years as a minis coach and has spent 9 years on the Somerset swim team. He also swims for the Capital Sea Devils as well as BCC swim and dive. Joey Panner, Junior Coach
Joey has been a Dolphin for 10 years and is beyond excited to start her first year as a junior coach. Joey is a rising junior at Montgomery Blair High School and a member of the Blair swim team. She is very willing to give lessons to any new or looking to improve swimmer! 
 
 
Nini Panner, Junior Coach
Nini Panner has been a Dolphin for 10 years and is so excited for her first year as a junior coach. Nini is a rising junior at Charles E Smith Jewish Day School and a swimmer on the Capitol Sea Devils Swim Club as well as the CESJDS swim team. She is available for lessons! 
 
 
Delia Vanderzon, Junior Coach
Delia is so happy to be part of the Dolphins coaching staff again this year for her 3rd season as a junior coach and after an awesome 14 years as a Dolphin!  She is a graduate of Somerset Elementary, Westland Middle, and B-CC, and is a rising sophomore at Georgetown University.  Delia swam for Nations Capital Swim Club year-round and is looking forward to a great final season with the Dolphins. Ben Williams, Junior Coach
Ben is excited for his second year as a Junior Coach on the Somerset Swim Team. Ben has been a Minis Coach for three years and this will be his sixth year as a Somerset Dolphin.
