Welcome to the 2019 Lane Lines newsletter for Week 5!

Week 4 featured a really wet swim meet versus Seminole and a strong performance in defeat by the dive team to Parkcrest. This week, we split locations with the dive team on the road at Sharks of Shorewood Hills while the swim team hosts defending All-City Champion Gators of Middleton. We're now past the halfway point of the season, and All-City is on the horizon. Be sure to read through all the sections below for information on this week's meets, upcoming social events, and getting ready for All-City!

Support Second Harvest

Each year, all swim communities in Madison, raise money for the Second Harvest Food Bank. This is a friendly competition between pools, with the winner announced and rewarded at All City.

Please consider doing at least one (or more) of the following:

  1. Bring canned/boxed goods to this week's meet vs Middleton. A barrel will be located right near the Chuck-a-Duck table.
  2. Participate in the Chuck-a-Duck and American Girl doll fundraisers. Purchase tickets Saturday morning and find out if you win, right after event 22 (8&U Backstroke).
  3. Donate directly with cash or check, at the Chuck-a-Duck table.
  4. Donate directly online, link coming soon.
  5. Vote for the winning Potato display at this summer's Potato Party!

Maple Bluff has won 2 years in a row, but we have a team large enough to beat them, if we can get motivated. Many families are in need right here in Madison, let's all get in the spirit and lend a hand.

Thanks,
Beth Hawker

Diving: Well Worthy

Another dual meet in the books with a strong Parkcrest beating Monona 71-51. We are over half way through the season with just 3 weeks remaining and now is a great time to learn some new dives in preparation for All City!! Thank you to all the wonderful parent volunteers for helping with set up, scoring, awards, and tear down on Friday. We have two more home meets this season, so there are still some opportunities to get involved.

We love your MO spirit! Please encourage each other in practice and cheer on your teammates in meets. We are a team and support each other regardless of differences. That includes competitors on other teams, too! I am so grateful to be part of such a great organization and thank you for your continued support.

FINAL REMINDER: If you are planning to dive at the ALL CITY Championships, you MUST confirm this by this Friday, July 12th as entries are due at the end of the week. An email was sent to all divers and parents earlier this week about making an informed decision.

Thank you to Roman Smith’s grandmother for volunteering to bring fruit on Friday morning this week. This is a great way to celebrate new dives and prepare for the meet.

Thank you,
Coach Wendy

Swim Notes
Way to stick it out through the rain! Had to be one of the wettest swim meets in a long while. Thanks also to all the parents who volunteered through the delay and deluge. Swimmers, don't forget to check if you're one of our Star Swimmers this week. Great job to them putting in extra effort and having positive attitude throughout the whole week.

Since we're over the half-way point in the season, our focus is now preparing for All-City. Start thinking about what you'd like to swim at All-City, perhaps it might be something that you've been working hard on it practice, but haven't swum yet! Consider using this meet to try something new. If you're not sure what to do, leave a note in your commitment and don't select any of the strokes. Coach Kelly and her staff would love to discuss and help! And don't forget about your relay swims and setting your splits! NOTE: All-City commitments are due by the end of the day on Monday, July 22.

MO Meet Challenge! This week, we've set up a list of challenges for you to complete during the meet. Can you get them all done? Use this file to keep track. Once you've got everything checked off, turn in your completed form to your coach at the meet. The age group with the most completed forms, wins!
