FIRST DAY TIPS!

Are you new to MO? Just getting into swimming and diving? Welcome! We know being a new swim/dive parent can feel like being thrown right into the deep end (welcome to swim puns...) and we're eager to help all our families have a successful and enjoyable season. Here are a few ways to familiarize yourself with all things Summer Swim and Dive...

  1. Peruse our website—there's lots of info there on everything from schedules to information about Meets.
  2. Keep an eye out for our "New Parent Video." The plan is to answer the most frequently asked questions by new families. If you have more, you are always welcome to reach out to Board President, Brian Johnson, and Head Coach, Kelly Chadesh, with specific questions.
  3. Chat with a Board Member during the first few days of practice. Our Board Members are all volunteer MO Parents who've been doing this a while. Several will be on the grounds during the first few practices and can answer your questions in person.

FIRST DAY TIPS AND REMINDERS FOR EVERYONE—NEW AND RETURNING FAMILIES:

  • Put your name on EVERYTHING.
  • Parents will not be allowed on deck during practices (see our Covid Safety Guidelines).
  • Everyone should arrive wearing their swimsuit. Locker Rooms are only available for bathroom use.
  • Don't forget your mask—everyone will need to wear them until they get in the water.
  • Arrive 5-10 minutes before the start of practice time so we can sort everyone into their groups as they arrive.
  • Pre-Season practices involve more swimmers practicing at the same time...this means a fuller parking lot! Plan ahead for parking scarcity, and arrive with enough time to walk a bit farther than usual after you find a spot. Better yet—Bike! The Monona Community Pool has lots of bike racks...always with plenty of space.
  • Enter through the Concessions Gate on the West end of the pool by the tennis courts. Look for Coach Kelly to check-in. She'll be wearing a colorful lei so you can easily spot her!
  • Pick up will be at the gate near the Community Center on the east end of the pool near the baby pool.
  • Every swim family has a mail folder in our hanging file box. The box will be placed by the exit. Check your folder regularly! You'll find award ribbons and pins earned at meets, and other info throughout the season, but during the first week you'll find your Swim Buddy Assignment (if you signed up to be a buddy). The mail folder is also a great way to relay (more swim puns!) notes and little treats to your buddy throughout the Summer.
  • Thank you for having patience with us as we get started this season!

USE THE BIG BUTTON BELOW TO COMMIT YOUR ATHLETES TO THEIR FIRST MEET OF THE SEASON:

MEET SIGN UP

Home Meets mean we need two additional things from families besides super fast and friendly swimmers:

Volunteers! We need help with timing, managing Clerk of Course (lining up young swimmers to get them ready to race), awards, and set up and tear down. To learn more about these jobs, check out our FAQ Page under "Volunteers" for descriptions—but don't worry! None of them take any prior knowledge, and we'll train you. Please use the same BIG BUTTON above to sign yourself up to Volunteer!

Concessions! In a normal/non-covid safety-concerned year, we'd have families donate items for our concession stand. But, concessions will look a little different this year, at least for the first swim meet.  We will be serving coffee, water bottles, soda and gatorade.  Everything will be either $1 or $2 and exact change is appreciated.  If you are interested in volunteering stop by the concession stand to see if any help is needed.  We will re-evaluate after the first meet to see how it we'll handle concessions moving forward.  Thank you for supporting concessions!

Newsletters are sent weekly throughout the summer season to keep you up to date on all the team happenings on and off the pool deck. Didn't get a copy of this in your email? Verify your contact info on the MO website to make sure you receive these newsletters and other important team information.
