Deep Dive
Notes from Coach Z:
Hello Monona Dive Team Family,
Our meet against RW was perfectly timed in terms of weather on Wednesday, July 14.  Unfortunately, we came up short at 65-59, RW.
We claimed a win against Seminole on Friday, July 16 resulting in 86-26, MO.
Memorable notes from Friday:
1. The national anthem was performed by 78% of the Monona dive team, flawlessly.
2. Banner branding was a hit.

Notes from Coach Kelly:

Congratulations to all of the swimmers that competed against Shorewood this past Saturday.  It was WONDERFUL to see swimmers accumulating new best times and take on new events.  It is always exciting to see this growth over such a short time.

A BIG reminder for this week is to sign up for All City no later than Tuesday.  Swimmers are allowed to change their individual events up until Saturday at 3:00 but the coaches need to start working on relays as soon as possible.

Another Reminder: only the 15-18 relays will be swum on a different day than the individual swims (they will swim on Sat).

Finally, swimmers that don't have a MO cap need to check in with Coach Kelly.  The cap is an absolute must for All City due to the amount of swimmers participating in the event.  If a swimmer isn't used to a cap by now let's practice this week!

And speaking of All City...no All City Meet is complete without our coaches in amazing costumes! We have 4 days of Costumes to complete this year and could use lots of help creating them. If you would like to be on the All City Costume Construction Committee, contact me directly at [email protected]

THE END OF SEASON BANQUET: Don't miss the MO End of Season Banquet on Sunday, August 1st at 11:00am at Firemen's Park in Monona. There will be food, awards, coach speeches, and one last time to officially hang out with your teammates and their families as the season ends. Details to come about food and rsvp-ing!

All City is fast approaching, and the deadline to sign your athletes up to compete is THIS TUESDAY!

Sign up deadline is July 20th.

Please note Coach Kelly's recommendation for swimmers to chat with their age group coach about what events they'd recommend for All City.

Also note that events #111 and #112 are for our Unified Group only.

The All City Championship Meet Page has a detailed schedule listed by event, but here is the general overview of where and when each age group will be swimming their last swims of 2021....

Senior Swimmer Ceremony Information:
All City will honor the League's Graduating Seniors at the meet on Wednesday, July 28 at Shorewood. The Ceremony will take place after event 30 (between backstroke and IM). Best guess at this point is 10:20am with check-in for the Seniors around 10:00 am, but more detailed timing will be available once all entries are in. Stay tuned for more details on the ceremony, and check out the link to the All City Senior Bios!
Newbie Question: What are "prelims" and "finals" at All City?
Expert Answer: Great Question, Newbie! All Swimmers are entered in their chosen two individual events for the preliminary race. Prelims will look just like our dual meets, with heats and lanes assigned by seed time—just a lot more of heats! The top 18 finishers in each event move on to the "finals" for that event on Saturday, for a total of 3 heats of each event. Those who place 19th and 20th during the preliminary race are also expected to attend Saturday's finals as "alternates"—but they swim only if one of the finalists can't or is a no-show. If you are not a finalist or an alternate, you do not need to attend Finals on Saturday, but are certainly welcome to come cheer to on your teammates! (15-18's...your relays are on Saturday afternoon, so you'll be there anyway!) Each team is awarded points based on how their swimmers place in the Finals race. For example, if a swimmer places 8th in the Prelims, but moves up to 4th in the Finals, the 4th place finish is what counts for scoring. There are no preliminary races for relays...each relay's initial swim is their one and only scored final swim.
MO's Role...
We are hosting the 8 and Unders for their All City Swims on
July 29 beginning at 7:30am!
Maybe second to hosting the Seniors, hosting All City for all of our youngest swimmers is super fun! We will have nearly 500 eager and excited young swimmers from all 13 teams in the league at our pool on Thursday morning, July 29th, starting at 7am.
When MO hosted All City in 2018, we had over 400 volunteers work several hours each. This year's version is much smaller, but we still need over 100 volunteers.  So, a different demand from a few years ago, but the same expectation--- all families who have swimmers participating at any of the All City days must work on either Wednesday evening (as we prepare the pool) or on Thursday.  We have several roles and shifts to choose from, and we are willing to help you fulfill your obligation because ultimately we want your swimmers/divers to participate in All City!
Please look for a dedicated email with a link on Tuesday evening for volunteering.
Plan to sign up before Saturday morning so we know who is doing what.

Chuck-a-Duck Returned!

With the money collected at the Shorewood Meet, we have raised over $750 for Second Harvest.

Thanks for the continued support! Keep it up by participating in chuck-a-duck again at this Saturday's Meet, our American Girl doll raffle, or a direct donation at this link.

Swim and Dive Meets for WEEK 7 of 2021

Followed by...HOME SWIM MEET vs. HILL FARM

  • Saturday, July 24th
  • 7:30am-12:00pm
  • Monona Community Pool
  • Warm Up Times TBD
  • Sign Up Deadline is Wednesday July 21.

Our last home meet! But we still need Volunteers!

Timers, Clerks of Course, Concessions, Awards, Scoring, Second Harvest...all need many hands on deck. Our entire organization is run on Volunteer Power, and we can't manage hosting meets without you! Unlike many teams, we do not have an official Volunteer Hour Requirement. We simply rely on...well...volunteers. You can read up on the task descriptions here, and sign up for your favorite using the button below. Thank you!

And, if you do volunteer, please note that your arrival time might be different than the meet start time! Clerk of Course, Timers, Concessions...just about every job needs their volunteers early to be prepared well in advance of the National Anthem. Please note your required arrival time when you sign up.

Concessions will continue to provide the best Hot Dogs, Brats, and Burgers in All The Land!

We'll once again be in our traditional location in front of the Pool Concession Stand, with Hot Dogs, Brats, and Burgers as well as our usual morning sustenance on the menu! Thank you for your support!

Newsletters are sent weekly throughout the summer season to keep you up to date on all the team happenings on and off the pool deck. Didn't get a copy of this in your email? Verify your contact info on the MO website to make sure you receive these newsletters and other important team information.
