NEWS for Week of March 11th - March 16th

Mar 11, 2019

Tonight starts the first night of our regular practice schedule!  Let's hear it for longer days and sunshine (once we get through all the rain, that is.)  Read on for info on Saturday focused instruction, making carpool arrangements, team gear, and the practice plan.

When Will Team Gear be Available for Purchase Again?

Still available for purchase online:  Custom Swim Caps and Suits, Parkas and Sweats.

Orders for team suits, parkas, hoodies and Tidalwaves sweat pants are all available directly through T& B Sports (1345 4th Street, San Rafael.  Phone:  415-453-2433). Click here to place your order between now and March 22, 2019. A T&B rep will be available at Redwood this week on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, 3/12 and 3/13 from 5:15-7:15 to show off and help you guesstimate the best size for your swimmer's team suit, if you need the help.  After these dates Team Gear will not be available for purchase until Pizza/Cheer night, April 26th. Any items ordered through T&B Sports will be available for pick up at Pizza/Cheer on April 26th or at Time Trials on April 27th.

Orders for PERSONALIZED swim caps go through Tidalwaves.  Click here for more info and to place your order before March 22nd.  What is a custom cap, you ask?  The best way to identify your child at a swim meet when s/he is all wet and dressed in the same bathing suit as 250+ of his and her closest team mates.  Caps will be available for pick up at Pizza/Cheer Night, April 26th.

Questions about Team Gear?  E-mail our gear leads, Lori Leighton and Kathryn Supinsky at gear@gowaves.com.

How Can I make Carpool Arrangements?

Nothing says swim parent sanity like a well run carpool!  Now that the practice groups are posted, you will be able to find e-mail addresses by using the Member Search page link found on the Contact page.  Please note that you will need to be logged into your Team Unify (TU) Account to see this information.

How Many Practices Should My Child Attend Each Week?

This is a decision that is up to you and your child.  However, Coach Marie recommends 3-4 practices a week for most kids to see improvement throughout the season, for our 5-6 year olds, 2-3 days is probably a better recommendation.  Here's an interesting tidbit:  we actually have data that shows kids that attend the recommended number of practices a week indicate a greater satisfaction with their own performance as well as the program than those who come less frequently.  Watch for details about our Attendance Incentive Awards, coming soon!

What is the Saturday Focused Instruction Schedule?

Here is the link for easy reference.  Open to all COM and Redwood team swimmers, but held at Redwood starting this Saturday, March 16th.

What's the (Practice) Plan?

Now that the season is underway, take a look at  Coach Marie's Season Practice Plan outline to get a sense for how your child will be training and what your child will be learning this season. We also hope you will find the time to read some of the great Swim Parent News articles we have on the website.  A great way to learn how to best support your child, our coaches, and our team this season!
