NEWS for Week of June 10th - June 15th

What an exciting weekend of swimming ahead for our Tidalwaves team!  Coach Marie has a note to the team, two meets coming up this weekend--a dual meet and the ALL STAR meet, Marie has pool time set aside this week and next for private lessons, Thursday is a NO SWIM day as Redwood celebrates its graduates, and we get ready for our last 2 dual meets and of course, CHAMPS, on June 29th and our Awards Banquet on June 30th. A head's up that next Wednesday is BINGO night, complete with a modified practice schedule, and don't forget, we're still doing our Tidalwaves Pool Party on July 3rd and our grand finale this year...the Tidalwaves entry in the 4th of July parade!  Still lots of swim team spirit and fun to go this season!!  Oh yeah, and we will welcome our COM 8 & Under swimmers to Redwood starting next MONDAY!

A Note from Coach Marie

Yeah team!  Way to Rumble, Rock and Roll!  Tidalwaves have earned a total of 88+% best times over the last 2 meets!  Now, that qualifies as a Tidalwave of strikes, blackouts, and a crushing mondo surf of personal best times.  We were treated to a Wavetastic crescendo by our 15-18 year old age group, winning first and second in every event, both boys and girls, and wowing the crowd in the Free relay.  Our three 15-18 free relay teams finished within .82 seconds of each other!  That was a coach and crowd pleaser...Congratulations to our Coaches of the Day!  You were awesome!

The entire Coaching staff would like to express our gratitude for the killer pipe of affection, affirmations, goodies and monetary gifts that were delivered to us last week!  We all feel blessed to be able to do what we do!  Thank you, we are Tidalwave grateful!

With our practices including more race specific work, let's hang ten for the culmination of our season with a goal of 90% best times, including Champs.  Also, save some energy to participate in our Bingo Night, July 3rd Pool Party, and our community's 4th of July Parade.  Wavetastically we swim along...GOOOO Tidalwaves!

Saturday's Meet Wrap Up

What a fun meet we had on Satuday!  Another point victory for Tidalwaves as we pulled off a solid win against a much improved, little engine that could, SwiMarin team.  Watch out, their star is starting to rise!  Four new All Star qualifiers this meet too!  Congrats to all who were there to contribute! Click here for the final results and click here to see our list of All Star qualifiers.  All around a ton of fun, despite the intense--yes, summer is finally here--heat WAVE!

Who Participates in the ALL STAR meet and What is Required?

Great question and thanks for asking!  The All Star meet on Sunday is for all those swimmers who have reached All Star Qualifying times in any dual meet between May 4th and June 15th*.  Yes, that means there is one more meet to qualify!  This Saturday's swim meet will be very exciting as all swimmers around the league take their last shot at making it into Sunday's meet.  For all those swimmers who have already qualified, you will be contacted shortly, through a separate e-mail with instructions for selecting  strokes or declining the meet, as well as apprised of your volunteer assignment for the meet.  Stay tuned!

What if your swimmer qualifies THIS Saturday?

Another great question!  If your swimmer qualifies this Saturday, please find Liz Foley at the meet (usually watching from straight across from the scoreboard) and let her know if your child intends to swim on Sunday.  Getting this information to the All Star meet hosts on Saturday evening so that heat sheets can be prepared before Sunday is stressful and I am hoping I won't need to make phone calls Saturday night.  Thanks for understanding!

*The age up date for the All Star meet is June 15th.  That means the swimmer needs to qualify with the time that represents the swimmer's age on June 15th.  This can sound confusing...basically, if your swimmer has moved up to a new age group during the season, to swim in the all star meet they must meet the qualifying time for the older age group.

Private Lesson Time Available--Please Schedule directly with Coach Marie

With school out for so many, we wanted to pass along that Coach Marie has some pool time available during the day this week and next for private lessons (Two hours already reserved for Thursday at Marin Academy).  Please reach out to her to schedule if you are interested.

Congratulations to ALL TIDALWAVES Swimmers who will graduate soon or have already graduated from high school this year.  Many, many of Redwood's graduates this year have participated on Tidalwaves at some point in their young lives.  This year, however, we want to recognize Kate Masterson, who graduated from Marin Catholic last week, and who will graduate from Tidalwaves at the end of the season.  Kate has been swimming for Tidalwaves since she was 6 or 7 years old, and has been an exceptional example of team spirit, drive, dedication, community commitment, sportsmanship and the fun and friendship that our sport encourages for every single one of the 11+ years she has been on our team!  Kate, you have been a joy to watch swim and grow up since we've known you!  Best of luck to you at All Stars, Champs, and oh, yeah, Purdue!

Time to Log Strokes, Leave Notes, or Decline Saturday's HOME meet
Two more dual meets to go!  Please click here to go to the Touchpad Home meet this week against the Lucas Valley Lightning on Saturday, June 15th that starts at our usual 10:30am and log your stroke choices, leave notes for early departures or late arrivals, or  decline the meet.  Please note that this time of year many people are headed out of town for vacation.  We still need you to decline the meet, even if you are on vacation.  This weekend's meet and next weekend's meet are both on the website and you can do them both today if you need to.  Thank you for your courtesy to the team!

What is Champs All About Anyway?

Champs is the last meet of the season, June 29th this year.  It is the Marin Swim League equivalent of the World Championships or the Olympics as ALL ten teams come together to participate in one big swim meet that is as much about team pride as it is about determining which team has the fastest swimmers in each event.  Maximizing participation in this meet is our team goal.  Points are awarded through 16th place for individual events and through 10th place for relays so the dynamics of this meet are very different from the dual meets.  Every swimmer is important to their team.  The competition at this meet is as much about the commitment of the team as it is about the talent of the swimmers

Swim team is about swimmers supporting their team mates with their presence, putting forward their best effort to inspire others on the team to do the same, commitment to practices, the pride that comes from giving back to the team, and sticking the season through to the end.

To be eligible to swim in the Championship meet, a swimmer must have swum in at least two dual meets. There are, however, no qualifying times.  EVERYONE CAN AND SHOULD SWIM IN THIS MEET!

Also please note that to be eligible for a coveted Tidalwaves' Waterdog T-shirt a swimmer must swim in all dual meets and Champs.  Additionally, age group high point trophy winners will be awarded based on points earned in all dual meets and Champs.

Bingo, Bingo, Bingo Wednesday, June 19th
