Tidalwaves Swim Team COVID-19 Protocols Summary

To offer a swimming program safely and successfully during the time of social distancing, the cooperation and understanding of every member of our Tidalwaves community is essential. Thank you for abiding by these rules.

  • MASKS are REQUIRED on swimmers, parents, and volunteers.  Please make sure your swimmer wears one.
  • WALK ON’s WILL NOT BE ALLOWED REGARDLESS OF IF THERE ARE NO SHOWS.  We cannot be in a situation where swimmers, and parents, are congregating by the pool watching for no-shows.  Please use the Sign-Up Genius to manage your sign-ups.  This is also our public health record in the event of a COVID report.
  • Bathroom use at the pool is limited to emergencies only, please make sure they go before they go! No locker room or shower use is available.

Volunteers and coaches CANNOT help swimmers put on caps and goggles.  We are committed to social distancing and therefore swimmers need to be able to help themselves if they want to participate.  If they need help with their cap, please help them before you drop them off.  If you cannot do that, your swimmer will need to be able to swim without one or you will be called to pick your child up.

Additional gear that should be with them:

  • Mask
  • Bag for gear (there will be NO cubby use) - gear not in use should be in bags on ground for their assigned lane
  • Fins
  • Towel
  • Flip flops
  • Personal kickboard (optional).  We will have kickboards at the pool that will be disinfected between use, but if you are more comfortable with your child having his or her own, it is o.k. to bring one.  However, be sure your child has his or her name on it and can remember to take it with him or her when leaving practice.

Arrival and Check-In

  • To minimize the chances of congregating around the gate, please plan to arrive no more than 5 minutes before your child’s practice slot time
  • There will be tape down in front of the gate 6 feet apart for swimmers to stand on when they arrive at the pool. A MASKED parent may stay with their swimmer, also on the tape 6 feet apart, until they are checked in.
  • We have a volunteer who will be monitoring kids to ensure they stay 6 feet apart and are wearing their masks.  Unfortunately, if a swimmer cannot follow these rules, they will get one warning and then be asked to leave.  Please be sure that your swimmer understands this and understands how important the social distancing rule is.
  • The parent volunteer will be checking temperatures before the child goes in and if their temperature registers more than the guideline mandated 100F degrees, they will be asked to leave.
  • Please be advised that if your swimmer shows up to swim you are attesting to the following:
    • Your child has not had close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19 within the last 14 days.
    • Your child has not experienced any cold or flu-like symptoms in the last 14 days.
    • At present your child does not have any cold or flu-like symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, respiratory illness, or difficulty breathing.

Pool Deck Procedures

  • Swimmers will each be assigned a lane and will walk with their gear bag to their lane, our coaches will help with lane assignments and directing swimmers.
  • Swimmers in even lanes will start on the bleacher side of the pool.
  • Swimmers in odd lanes will start on the block side of the pool.
  • Swimmers within the same age group and family can but are not required to share a lane.
  • Once at their lane, swimmers can remove their mask, put it in their bag, and leave it until the end of practice.    Please make sure your swimmers know to put the masks inside their bag, so they don’t blow around!

Practice Procedures

  • With 16 swimmers in the pool at one time, we will have 2 coaches.
  • Coaches will be careful, and swimmers should be too, of always remaining at least 6 feet apart.
  • No hugging of coaches (or friends) will be allowed, (as awful as that seems)!

Exiting Practice

  • At the end of practice, swimmers will gather their belongings, put their mask back on, and leave via the gate on the tennis court side of the pool.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available at both the entering and exiting gates.
  • It is advisable that if you have an 8 & Under, or young 9-year-old that you meet your child here and walk them to the car.  If they can get there themselves that is fine.
  • Please ensure that swimmers understand they must not congregate at the exit.  They and you should plan for and expect your child to leave promptly after their swim opportunity.
