Spring 2021

Tidalwaves will be able to offer a Spring Season for 2021!

Rather than our usual 20 week season, we will need to break it into 3 distinct sessions due to changes in the high school season that will cause our practice times to fluctuate. The 3 sessions will roughly be:

  • Session 1: March 1 - April 16
  • Session 2: April 17 - June 4
  • Session 3: June 4 - July 10

We hope to be able to accommodate 180 swimmers at our Redwood and College of Marin (COM) pools. This is a little over half the number that the program would normally benefit, due to COVID restrictions and reduced pool time based on compacted high school sport seasons. We very much expect that program demand will exceed the number of spots available.

COVID Restrictions

  • While many pools in the county are starting to move to 2 - 3 swimmers per lane, Tidalwaves will continue to follow protocols of 1 swimmer per lane in the 9-10 and 8 & Under groups as we feel at the younger ages, it is too difficult to keep unmasked kids 6 feet a part during the excitement of swim practice unless they are swimming 1 per lane alternating the side of the pool from which they start and stop.
  • We will allow to 2 to a lane for our 11 & Up age group (starting at opposite ends).
  • We will continue to require practice reservations via Sign Up Genius for swimmers attending practice at Redwood High School.  The Sign Up Genius will likely go out 1x week and swimmers will be able to sign up for up to 3 swim spots per week.
  • Swimmers at College of Marin will be assigned to cohorts with set practice dates and times; no Sign Up Genius required.
  • All the usual protocols for social distancing and masking will stay the same.

Swim Meets

We will be able to offer a limited number of virtual, intra-squad meets throughout the three sessions! As we did in the Fall, these will be socially distanced, probably spread across 2 days, all volunteer run, and of course optional.  Our goal will be to run 1 or 2 in the first session, 1 or 2 in the second session, and perhaps 2-3 in the third session when we have more pool time available to us. The goal will be to allow kids to get times in events, experience a little safe competition, and mark their improvement for all their practicing.

The Marin Swim League is developing plans to bring times together from other MSL teams that are also holding socially distant meets so the kids can virtually compete across the league. At this time, that is all we know about how the MSL season will run.
