Swim Team begins May 9!

Norwood Ducks

Welcome back, Norwood Ducks!

Summer swim team is back! Everything is on, with a return to our typical in-person meets and events all season. The season schedule is on the team website, dates are there, more details and job signups will be added in the coming weeks.

  • Are we back to normal operation and schedule at Norwood?  YES!
  • Will there be in-person home and away swim meets? YES!
  • Full, in-person B-Champs and A-Champs meets, too? YES!

Whether you’re interested in swim team and want to learn more, or you are a diehard Duck and just can’t wait to get this season started, stop by the pool on Opening Day Saturday, May 7 and meet our coaches, team captains, and our swim team coordinator. Ask questions, try on team suits for size, or just come say ‘Hi!’ Also…free ice cream, and the pool will be open! Come to learn why joining swim team will be the best thing your kids do all summer!

If you have been meaning to register, the time is now! If you have friends that want to join, please, tell them now! Space is filling up and late registrations are not guaranteed. REGISTER TODAY! Swim Team registration will CLOSE at 11:59 PM on Sunday, May 8 (Mother’s Day).

Head Coach Michael Liu is returning for his second summer with the Norwood Ducks, and we are welcoming back Head Coach Erin Harvey, whom many of you will remember from 2019 and 2020. These two highly capable coaches are passionate swimmers themselves. Our team won the B-Champs/Division IV Championship last season, let’s see if we can do it again!

We are excited to announce that Jude van Breda and Paige Heinemann both have been promoted to Assistant Coach this season! Paige and Jude have previously been Apprentice Coaches and Team Captains, as well as Norwood Ducks themselves for almost 10 years. They are very excited for this opportunity, and we expect great things from these two peer leaders.

Dane Skalski–past swim team member, Team Captain, Assistant Coach, and 2020’s Most Inspirational Swimmer–is now Norwood Swim Club’s new Pool Manager! He will be leading our lifeguards and managing swim lessons, so you will see him around the pool during rec swim hours instead of swim team this summer.

And we will miss Justine Fielding this season, as she will be spending her summer in Pullman.

We are seeking a new Apprentice Coach! Applicants must be Norwood Ducks themselves, at least 15 years of age and planning to complete lifeguard certification (I have resources for certification, reach out). Our ideal candidate will be a club swimmer and/or a swimmer on high school swim team in addition to summer league. Please check out our Coaches page for more information and an application!

At the end of each season, our teens vote for 5 teammates to be our Team Captains. Our 2022 Team Captains are: Matthew Livingston, Jude van Breda, Paige Heinemann, Tarek Kouidri, and Cami Brownlee! The Team Captains choose our team suits, pick our home meet spirit themes, decorate and dress up for the themes, lead the team cheer, oversee the Jr. and Teen Movie nights and breakfast pool party, make the Paper Plate Awards for the Team Banquet, and generally make everything swim team a lot more fun!

We have a new local vendor for team suits this season! Size kit for try-ons will be available at the Open House and the first week of swim team practice.

Check out the new club apparel this season, with fun new design and items like flannel pajama pants!

If you’d like to get a jump on your workshare points for the season, please volunteer to sit with the team suit size kit the first week of practice, or help with distribution of suits and apparel when the orders arrive!

Can’t wait for the pool to open!
