Parents play a critical role in the success of their children's swim team, and volunteering to help at swim meets is an essential part of that role.
The most helpful thing you can do this season is to choose a volunteer role and try and do that same role for as many meets that you’re able (and please, sign up before the deadline). By being consistent in doing the same role throughout the season, it will cut down on the need for individual on-the-spot training at each meet.
Here are a few benefits to getting involved in our community swim team:
- Swim meets require a lot of volunteers to run smoothly, and without enough volunteers, the event may not happen. By volunteering, parents can ensure that our team has the support it needs to succeed.
- Involvement in your children's activities builds their confidence. When parents show interest in their children's hobbies and actively participate in them, children feel supported and valued. They are more likely to feel confident in their abilities and pursue their interests with enthusiasm.
- Working with your neighbors is fun and builds friendships. Volunteering is an opportunity to connect with other parents and work together towards a shared goal. It's a chance to have fun and build meaningful relationships with other members of your community. The most helpful thing you can do this season is to choose a volunteer role and try and do that same role for as many meets that you’re able (and please, sign up before the deadline). - Volunteering fosters community. Swim meets are a great opportunity for parents to come together and work towards a common goal. When parents volunteer, they get to know each other and form relationships that extend beyond the swim team. This creates a sense of community that is essential for a healthy and thriving team.
- Home Meet support is the most important, as our meets cannot run without the required volunteers. Without fully staffing timers, officials, concessions, and scorekeeper...we would have to forfeit the meet.
