See the Practice Schedule

Norwood Swim Team seeks to promote a life-long love of swimming by providing participants of all skill levels the opportunity to practice, improve, and compete as a part of our community summer league team.

Swim Team workouts are offered Monday - Friday beginning in mid-May. Swim meets* begin mid-June on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, with one home meet and one away meet per week, for approximately five (5) weeks. The season closes with a Divisional Championship meet for all swimmers followed by Midlakes League Championship meet for qualified swimmers.

*In 2021, to maintain Healthy Start Phase 2 guidelines, I do not expect that we'll be having two-team hosted meets. While we remain Phase 2, our swim meets will all be at our home pool, with only our team present and our club's social-distancing procedures in place. If we are competing with Midlakes this summer, we'll meet at our own pools and then co-mingle our times to declare winners without traveling to another club nor inviting another club to our pool. If Washington's Healthy Start phase is upgraded, we will make adjustments accordingly, however our priority is the health of our swim team community.

2021: Updated 04/03

Norwood Swim Team is a member of the Midlakes Swim League and USA Swimming.

WORK SHARE COMMITMENT

To run a great summer swim team, it takes the involvement of every family. We ask that each Swim Team family complete a minimum of 23 work share points this season to ensure we cover all of our volunteer needs. The work share commitment is a very easy threshold to meet, and there are ample opportunities to help out and earn your points.

When you declare your swimmer(s) to participate in meets and events you will also see the volunteers we need to support the event. If your family volunteers at least one ½ meet shift for every meet you have a swimmer competing, you could easily make your points.

Online volunteer/work share signup information and a “how-to” will be emailed to all swim team families after registration.

We look forward to serving with you this season!

BIG BUDDY PROGRAM

For new swimmers, the excitement of a swim meet can be a little overwhelming. To help ease the younger kids, 8 years old and under, into the meet routine and get them excited to be there, Norwood has a wonderful Big Buddy Program.

An important part of Norwood’s summer swim team success, Big Buddies are role models and friends who show our little guys how to be a Duck. As our swimmer's graduate from 8U to 10U, most kids are excited to get to be an important Big Buddy, after the fun they experienced as Little Buddies themselves.

What does a Big Buddy do?

  • Get to know your Little Buddy. Be a friend!
  • Encourage your Little Buddy to come to all the workouts! Leave surprises in their swim files.
  • At meets:
    • Make signs to help them get psyched!
    • Greet your Little Buddy.
    • Make sure your Little Buddy warms up.
    • Accompany your Little Buddy to get their event slips and inform his/her parents what events they’re swimming.
    • Make sure your Little Buddy gets to all of his/her events!
    • CHEER! CHEER! CHEER! Be at the finish with encouragement and a towel.
    • Escort your Little Buddy to the coaches right away for feedback. If your Little Buddy is DQ’d…a hug or smile works miracles.
    • At Home Meets, most Big Buddies gift their little buddy with thoughtful little something as a token of encouragement, such as a home made poster with a protein bar, a small bucket of goodies, a gatorade, or a little toy duck. Homemade items are encouraged.

Work Share opportunity: Sign up with the swim team coordinator to coordinate big buddies with little buddies, and make a poster to reveal the pairings at the Duck Classic!

FUN FRIDAYS

On Fun Fridays, the first half of practice time is regular workout, the second half will be pool and/or park games, followed by donuts or other treats! Please pack sneakers on Fridays in case of games at the park.

Fun Fridays begin once school is out (and practices switch to mornings).

Work Share opportunity: Sign up with the swim team coordinator to pick up donuts and deliver to the pool by 8:00AM on a Friday. You'll pay for the donuts at pick up, then turn in your receipt for a refund.
