River Run Raptors Update - May 24th

Hi Raptors! Summer is getting close and it’s even starting to feel like summer!!  Please read the following carefully - there is a lot of information below and some 2021 changes that are a few announcements for this week. Wednesday I will send out specific details for volunteer sign up and meet sign up. Getting excited as we gear up for the opening of the pool and the Raptors Season!

  1. Registration - Please Turn in any outstanding checks to the Clubhouse by Wednesday, 5/26 at 5pm

We are excited to have a growing team this year!  Please make sure you have turned in your payment check to the River Run Clubhouse by THIS WEDNESDAY 5/26 by 5pm! This will allow for all accounts to be made “active” prior to the volunteer sign up on Thursday 5/27.

  1. Volunteer Sign Up Opens May 27th at noon

Volunteer Sign up opens May 27th at noon (This Thursday).  Please sign up for your 5 meet slots. Volunteer sign up will close on June 4th. Following June 4th, anyone not signed up will be assigned their 5 jobs by the Volunteer coordinator/Parent Board.

  • Each family is required to work 5 jobs during the season

  • For 2021, most jobs will be for our home meets (limited away meet jobs available)

  • Specific Sign Up instructions will be sent out on Wednesday 5/26

  • A list of high school students will be provided prior to the first meet if you wish to hire a replacement to work your job(s).

**We are also looking for the following (both roles take the place of your volunteer slots):

  • Volunteer Coordinator: responsible for worker check in at the start of swim meets, creating name tags, assisting the Executive board in ensuring all needed slots are filled

  • **Critical Need**  Computer Co-chair:  works only home meets to assist in running the timing system & creating the meet files using provided software program (no experience needed - easy to learn, should be comfortable working with a computer)

Please contact Jenn Buedel ([email protected]) if you are able to help as Volunteer coordinator or Computer Co-chair!! Thanks in advance!!

  1. Afterschool Practices - June 1,2,3

Prior to the end of school, we offer 3 afternoon practices as we ease into our season.  Please note: we FULLY understand that this is a busy time with school activities, spring sports wrapping up, etc.  These practices are optional, but a great opportunity if you are available!

8 and under swimmers: 4:45pm-5:15pm

9 and older swimmers: 5:15pm-6:00pm

*All practices are at the River Run Club Pool - please enter through the lower entrance (follow path on west side of the clubhouse)

*Practices are weather dependent -- for reference, we swim in rain and chilly temps (specific temp depends on water temp, etc).  We NEVER swim in lighting/thunderstorm conditions.   Ultimately, each family determines whether or not to send their swimmers on cold/rainy days.  Hopefully next week will bring sun and warmth!!

  1. “Trunk” Rally (aka Pep Rally) - June 4th 5:30-6:30pm

We are switching it up for our Pep Rally this year! While we know our state is steadily opening up, we still want to stay mindful of our swimmers safety and avoid unnecessary risks while we welcome the 2021 Swim Season!

So, what is Trunk Rally?

  • Pick up you team t shirt (and Raptorwear what you ordered in April)

  • Have a little treat with your teammates

  • Meet the coaches & show some team spirit

  • A Chance to get excited about the 2021 Raptor Swim Team Season!!

Where?  We will meet in the large grassy areas by the River Run Park.  Families should park in the lower section of the River Run Club parking lot with “Trunks” facing the park!

  1. Time Trials - Saturday, June 5th

Time Trials is a “mock meet” run only for our team.  The meet is run like a regular meet.  It’s a great opportunity for new swimmers to learn what a real meet looks like and a chance for returning swimmers to finally race again!  All swimmers are encouraged to try all strokes (this is also a great chance for coaches to know what swimmers need to work on)!  Details on how to sign up coming on Wednesday 5/26!

Swimmers and workers arrive @ 7:30am

Warmups @ 7:45am

Meet begins @ 8:30am

*With only our team, we usually finish by 10:30-11:00am

6. Still need a team Swimsuits: While not required, we do recommend Raptor swim team members purchase our team suit.    Raptor team suit is available for purchase from Urban Tri Gear, located at 804 E Ogden Ave, Westmont, IL 60559.  Urban Tri Gear can be contacted at (630) 230-9386    I suggest trying out your suit at the store, especially if you are new to racing suits.

Ask for the River Run Raptor Team Suit - they will have style information, as well as preferred team pricing.

7. Sponsor Opportunity:  Interested in supporting the Raptors as a team sponsor or know of some who might be interested?   We offer several levels of sponsorship which include banners at swim meets and water polo games, company logos on our team shirts, and recognition on our team website and in the Raptor Reporter.   As a 401(c)3 organization, all sponsorships are tax deductible.  For more information click the following link:  Sponsorship packet link
