WAVE/MARCH CLINIC 2023 Registration Information

RST Secretary

Good Morning Wave Families,

This email has a lot of information about our upcoming Wave programming for 2023.  We have finalized our pool space for spring and are most of the way through Summer.  I’ll include all the info I know and my best guess for summer.

Dryland February:

Registration is now open for February dryland.  Click here for the direct link to register.  You can also access through our website under the “Wave Rec Swim Team” tab.  Coach Michael has been sending info in his weekly emails.  Here is an insert from his last email describing the program:

We will be going over basic stretches, core strength, and resistance training exercises that target the main muscles that are used for swimming. There is only so much strength you can develop inside the water, the best way to build strength is actually outside the water using different types of resistance; stretch cords, medicine balls, jump ropes, etc. One day each week we will have an in class session, meaning we will watch videos so each swimmer will get a visual learning experience as well. We are very excited to offer this new program to help further the development of our athletes.

This is the first year that we are offering programming during the month of Feb.  We are subject to the bylaws placed by our league.  February is a “dry month” with in-water practices prohibited by the NOR CAL Swim League.  We know that we need to continue offering programming and find ways to help our swimmers improve during this time.

Here is the info:

March Clinics:

For March, the NOR CAL Swim League bylaws put limits on practice time and focus.  March is considered a “Clinic” month.  We are limited to a maximum of 3 days per week at 60 min each session.  This is for every team in the league.  We also share the pools with both high schools who are in the middle of their swim seasons.  This is a highly impacted time due to all the groups that require pool usage, but we have space and we are able to get the kids out by 8:15 pm at the latest.

This is a tentative schedule.  There can be changes before we open up registration later this month.

Tu/Thurs only:

Bronze 1: 6:00-6:30

Bronze 2: 6:30-7:00

Silver 1: 7:00-7:45

M/W/Fri only:

Silver 2: 6:00-6:45

Gold 1: 6:45-7:30

Gold 2: 7:30-8:15

* This is a tentative schedule

April - The start of Official Wave Summer Season

The first few weeks of Wave will be our most impacted time of the year.  We are still sharing the pool with full HS rosters as the HS teams wrap up their seasons and our numbers are the largest we have for the year.  April 1 - April 23 will be our biggest challenge.  Starting April 24, both HS teams shrink to only the swimmers that have qualified for the championship meets.  This means that we can access the pools earlier and our practices shift a bit to allow earlier practice times and more time in the pool.  This shift continues to the end of the school year.

Summer Wave (Out of School)

Historically we have always had our kids swim in the morning.  I’ve received a lot of feedback that many of our swimmers attend summer camps and activities in the mornings during summer.  I’m going to try and shift our practice times to the afternoons so swimmers can attend practice more regularly.  We have about 400 swimmers to get into the pool split between 15 groups. I’ll do my best to have a convenient practice schedule.

I’m excited about this new year and our upcoming competitive season! Let’s go Wave!

Thanks,

Chris Stehula
