Here are some tips and pointers to help make this season run more smoothly. From now on, you will only receive a system generated email reminding you of your volunteer position 2 days prior to your event. Please refer to the below chart for who to check in with based on the position you are working. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Cristina Kang at [email protected] or Amanda Baxter at [email protected]
Volunteer Procedures:
- Arrive ON TIME for your volunteer position.
- Once you arrive, check in with the volunteer coordinator.
- Then get your name tag from the Chief Timer (home meets) or Assistant Chief Timer (away meets).
- Then report to the appropriate official as indicated in the chart below.
- Wear a plain white shirt and navy blue shorts, skirt, capris or pants (absolutely no denim). This is the standard "uniform" used for all meets. Please wear comfortable shoes or sandals -- some of you will be standing for a long time!
** If you have an emergency and cannot fulfill your volunteer spot, you must find a replacement and contact Cristina and Amanda.
Volunteer Requirements:
- DO NOT USE YOUR CELL PHONE when you are volunteering. You are welcome to check it for messages, but to carry on a conversation or text while on-duty is unacceptable.
- Don't forget your sunscreen and a hat. If the weather is rainy, please bring a weatherproof jacket/poncho. We still conduct meets in the rain -- as long as there is no thunder. The rules for weather are posted on our website under “Documents” and also posted on the Sharks bulletin board at the pool.
- Your children are not allowed to be with you while you are volunteering. If you have small children that are not swimming at the meet, please make sure someone else is watching them while you volunteer. Unless they are swimming at the meet, Jr. Shark swimmers are NOT allowed in the team area during the meet.
- Your Shark swimmer needs to stay IN THE TEAM AREA until the end of the meet and cheer for other swimmers. Swimmers are not to come out of the team area except for bathroom breaks and Shark Shack snacks. Please do not allow them to sit with you during the meet or with you while volunteering.
