Welcome to Highlands Swim!

Each season the Highlands Whomping Turtles look to continue our turtle traditions, and make new memories for all of our wonderful families, from the newest of Mini Whompers to the most seasoned NVSL veterans.  We encourage all Highlands members to participate in Swim Team activities regardless of level of experience. Learn-to-swim with our supportive and fun-loving coaches, develop swimming skills with our organized practices, have a blast with all the team swimmers at Monday night “B meets,” and get crazy to support the “A Meet” competitors at NVSL meets on Saturday mornings.  And don’t forget the weekly Pancake Breakfasts after morning practices on Fridays, Bagel Mondays, after-practice Art & Crafts, Friday night pep rallies for the entire family, and all of our other social events for the team!

The Highlands Swim Program is open to all swimmers of various skill levels, ages 5-18, and is broken into three distinct categories- Swim Team, Mini Whompers, and Private Swim Lessons.

Swim Team - The Highlands Swim Team is open to swimmers that are members of Highlands Swim and Tennis Club. Swimmers between the ages of 5 and 18 are invited to join the Swim Team. Swimmers must be (1) at least 5 years old; (2) able to swim unassisted a recognizable 50 freestyle (face in the water, breathing side to side, arms exiting the water), (3) swim unassisted a recognizable backstroke one 25-meter length of the pool without flipping on to their stomache, and (4) be comfortable in the water, separate easily from their parents and able to handle a 60 minute practice.

Mini Whompers - The Mini Whompers Developmental Swim Program is designed to provide a sound foundation in the proper technique of all four competitive strokes for swimmers five-to-eight years old. The Mini Whompers program focuses on correct breathing patterns, endurance, and provides an introduction to NVSL competitive swimming in a fun and positive environment. To participate in Mini Whompers, swimmers must (1) be at least 5 years old, (2) swim an unassisted 25-meter freestyle (Face In - breathing however they need to, but able to put their face back in the water; arms exiting the water as the face is in the water), (3) comfortably float on their back unassisted for 10 seconds, and (4) separate from their parent easily and handle being in the water for a 60 minute practice.  Mini Whompers may advance to the Swim Team when they are able to meet the Swim Team eligibility requirements outlined above and at the discretion of our head coaching staff. The maximum number of swimmers in the Mini Whomper program is 48. The Mini Whompers program is a six-week program running from June 13 through July 22, 2022 10:30am—11:30am Monday—Friday. There are no afternoon Mini Whomper practices.
