Invitational Swim Meets

Invitational Meets are really a time for swimmers to gain experience in a larger swim meet with multiple teams and a clerk of the course. Think of it as a mini OMPA and your chance to hone your skills for the big end of the year meet. Most of the meets offer extra spirit vendors, entertainment, and food trucks to help make the event FUN! Invitational Meets are typically on a Sunday with one notable exception -- OPP Relays. See below for a description of our invitationals in chronological order.

OPP RELAYS: OPP Relays is a thrilling all-relay meet hosted by the parents and swimmers of Park Pool and designed to provide an opportunity for five teams plus the host, OPP -- OPP and the top finishers from the previous season's OMPA Championship -- to compete in events which emphasize teamwork and team spirit.  There are five relays in which 5-6 swimmers from each age group participate. The meet concludes with the Parents Relay and the always-suspenseful Coaches Relay. Fingers crossed we make it next year!!!

BOTTOMS UP:  This all day event is for all swimmers at the bottom of their age group (5, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 15 year olds as of June 15), and involves all of the teams in the OMPA league. This meet is a great opportunity for swimmers at the bottom of their age group to shine!  The meet is hosted by Moraga Valley Pool (MVP).

MEADOW MINI-MEET:  This meet is for all 8-and-under swimmers. The age groups are defined by the swimmer's age on the day of the meet -- the June 15th rule does not apply at this meet. The morning session is for 4, 5 and 6 year olds, and the afternoon session for 7 and 8 year olds. The meet is hosted by and held at Meadow Pool. This is one of the MOST spirited and FUN meets of the season!

SLEEPY HOLLOW ’B’ INVITATIONAL:  This is a special meet for “B” swimmers hosted by and held at Sleepy Hollow.  Sleepy Hollow establishes B time standards and other rules for participation in this event. The meet starts at 8:30 a.m. and runs until about 3:00 p.m.

COUNTY MEET: For the first time in years, the county swim meet will be held the weekend AFTER OMPA, August 5th and 6th. Eligible swimmers are those who attain gold standard times during the season and through OMPA.

SIGN-IN DEADLINES for INVITATIONALS:  Sign-ins deadlines for invitational meets are approximately 3 weeks before the event.  Please double-check the meet sheet you receive to make certain that your swimmer is correctly entered and contact the Head Coach at  [email protected] immediately if there is a problem. We pay a fee for each swimmer registered in an Invitational -- you may be fined these fees for no-showing at the event.

WORK DUTY for INVITATIONALS: Typically each attending team is assigned a handful of work duty assignments at an invitational meet.  In addition to the required 4 regular season meets, you may be assigned a work duty at an invitational meet IF your child is swimming in that meet.  We do our best to make sure that every family only works ONE invitational meet per year, so we thank you in advance for your time and willingness to represent the WAVES at these meets.
