Volunteer Information

Family Work Requirement
Each family is expected to volunteer for a number of work opportunities to help run the meets (which includes the SSA championships). The required number of volunteering opportunities per family depends on the number of families involved in the team. In 2019, the requirement was three work opportunities per family.  Our event require a lot of support from our families: many hands make light work!
If you feel volunteering may be an issue, please contact Lynn Cowell (
[email protected]), Megan Rodney ([email protected]) or Angela Maciukiewicz ([email protected]) and we can make alternate plans for your family.

Volunteers AT Swim Meets:

  • Timers Home and Away meets.  Critical job, and the one that has the most required positions to fill. Use a stop watch to time the swimmers in their races.  Record the time.  Summer swim pools have no automatic timing systems, so the timers' work is critical.  You will be working in pairs, two timers per lane, and you have one of the best views for the meet!   Water will be brought to you by the folks working hospitality. If you have an older swimmer or if you are in a position where one parent can be freed up to time, please consider filling a timer slot. Timers should arrive at the meet by 5:45. The timer’s meeting will be held around 6:00.

  • Stroke & Turn Officials Home and away meets.  Watch strokes, starts and turns to ensure swimmers are following stroke, start, and turn rules. The goal of officiating is to make sure swimmers are not getting an unfair advantage over other swimmers, while keeping in mind that this is a summer swim league. These positions are only available to people who have had Officials Training. Officials should arrive at the meet by 5:45.

Interested in officiating? You are the best!!!! Please watch the following videos - USA Swimming Stroke & Turn Videos.
